It's gonna depend on the particular plastic and its UV resistivity. If it isn't, it will become brittle.

I was just looking into it and it looks like they are Polyethylene.
4570 has a good point about the wood covering the pallet but the UV will still get to some of it.

Black in color is a good sign they are UV stabilized.

The only ones I've seen are black. My wood doesn't sit in fields to dry, but I've seen people that do. ( I caught the reference )What color are the pallets? And will they be out in the 'fields'?

Surly they are designed better than that. After all most warehouses aren't heated.
Yes I like the plastic I have 3 years on these you gotta be careful picking them up so you don't bust the plastic up.

I have several of those plastic pallets in my basement, when we throw wood down into the basement, they keep the wood off the floor... They have lasted just fine for that...
I also have some plastic apple boxes, they sit out in the sun and after many years, they are still good as new.
I have a zillion uses for them! lol Here, I was using one, while roofing my deer blind...
