Darn, I was going to suggest adding one from an older Dodge Cummins engine!

Pointing his salamander heater at the intake manifold (not too close!!!) may help get it going quicker than doing the whole "tent" idea.

My old Ford 2000D has 2 heating elements in the intake manifold, manually switch operated. Both Branson Cummins licensed engines (B3.3 NA and A1100NA) use glow plugs even though the 3.3 is direct injected and the 1100 is swirl chamber ignited.

Open combustion chamber diesels have to use intake manifold heaters as there is no place for glow plugs in the combustion chamber.

Afternoon all;
Just a quick update on my 8050 starting; The Rotella T6 5W-40 synthetic oil in the engine and cen-pe-co oil in the the hydraulic/trans and she starts very well,
I did get a block heater installed in her, on the oil filter side of the engine just about center there is a 1" npt plug with a recessed 1/2" square drive, I removed that plug and installed a 600 watt 1" npt heater which fit good in the block, the only problem was that the oil cooler water line fitting is extremely close to that same plug and the hex'es would not clear I ended up putting a close nipple 3/8 npt and coupling in then the oil heater fitting to get the hex's to clear, works great she will start in sub zero temps now, the manifold heat sensor will try and shut off to soon so I will cycle it 2-3 times before going for a start.
