What is a mastive?

All dogs CAN be dangerous, I've seen small dogs more aggressive than lots of big dogs. Any dog can turn at any moment, just like people can turn. Teach your kids right from wrong, raise your dog right and ask God to keep you safe, that's all we can do.

+1 While I don't like pits, most that I have encountered have been well trained and well mannered. Still scary as heck but well mannered. While not capable of inflicting as much damage, I have a lot more problems with small dogs being aggressive. To me, it looks like their owners think that since the dogs are small that they don't have to train out the aggression.

The most aggressive dogs I have encountered are chihuahua and dachshund. But they are puntable

I don't believe that pits are more bite prone than other dogs, I believe that pit bites get reported more than other dogs, maybe they do more damage but are not more bite prone.

The Lies, **** Lies and Statistics Behind Dog Bites | The Huffington Post

When people become afraid of dogs just by the way they look that's not fair for the dog, the most aggressive dog I have ever owned or seen was a choc lab I had, I had to constantly watch that dog, he was all the time picking fights with other dogs and doing the whole dominance thing, the least aggressive dogs I have ever seen, been around and know people who own them is pit bull classification dogs and my Sheppard, my Sheppard scares the piss out of people coming up to the house all the time but he's less likely to bite someone than my lab was, I think labs by far are more bite prone, they just have a better reputation.

I don't know if pits are more bite prone but I do know the scariest dog encounter I've ever had was with a pit. It came onto my property and for 10 seconds wanted to remove my liver. If it had gotten a hold of me, the damage would have been brutal. What was weird was that after 10 seconds, it just stopped and turned its head. I used that to get a step back from it. When it turned back towards me, it gave me a quizzical look and then turned and walked off like nothing had just happened.

Mastiffs are cool. Huge dogs that supposedly just knock intruders down and keep them pinned until their owner shows up. At least supposedly that is their nature. The few I have met have been friendly. They are just huge.

.

I doubt that anything will change your mind on that.

The data is quite clear and quite frankly not surprising considering the type of people who typically own pit bulls is much different than those who have poodles.

The real truth is that most pit bull owners don't own them because they are sweet pets and good with children.......they buy them as guard dogs knowing full well they are dangerous.
And the dogs are quite literally an extension of the character of their owner.

Yes, I believe that to be true. A friend of my wife had a litter of Corsos (Italian Mastiff) that she was trying to find homes for and refused to post on FB or other sites because of the low lifes that would want them.
