I don't believe that pits are more bite prone than other dogs, I believe that pit bites get reported more than other dogs, maybe they do more damage but are not more bite prone.

When people become afraid of dogs just by the way they look that's not fair for the dog, the most aggressive dog I have ever owned or seen was a choc lab I had, I had to constantly watch that dog, he was all the time picking fights with other dogs and doing the whole dominance thing, the least aggressive dogs I have ever seen, been around and know people who own them is pit bull classification dogs and my Sheppard, my Sheppard scares the piss out of people coming up to the house all the time but he's less likely to bite someone than my lab was, I think labs by far are more bite prone, they just have a better reputation.
