Dogs and neighbors.

Yes, I believe that to be true. A friend of my wife had a litter of Corsos (Italian Mastiff) that she was trying to find homes for and refused to post on FB or other sites because of the low lifes that would want them.

I was rejected 3 times from 3 diff pet adoption services because I didn't have a physical fence attached to my house, they said they would not even accept any type of electric fence. So I had to go to CL for a dog. Found a good one though, everything worked out in the end but people who get animals from CL and FB aren't all bad lol

No but she knew she'd get lots that she didn't want owning those dogs. We seriously considered one but didn't think we could have integrated into our pack of 4 at the time.

I don't know if pits are more bite prone but I do know the scariest dog encounter I've ever had was with a pit. It came onto my property and for 10 seconds wanted to remove my liver. If it had gotten a hold of me, the damage would have been brutal. What was weird was that after 10 seconds, it just stopped and turned its head. I used that to get a step back from it. When it turned back towards me, it gave me a quizzical look and then turned and walked off like nothing had just happened.

I don't know why, but I've read about that behavior before. I think that complete unpredictability is what has given them their bad name, deserved or not.

LOL, you'd think so. My wife has a big heart for all critters. She had 4 when I met her. We only have one of that pack left. We got a couple mini Aussies a couple years ago and will only have 2 or possibly 3 in the future.

It's deserved, you just never know when. That guy's lucky alot of times a pit will catch you and you won't hear a bark or growl til it's too late. Now I know others will not agree but I'll leave it at this I know pit bulls like alot of you know tractors. I know a little about tractors from what I have read and heard, kinda like I think the case is with those in the bad rap camp.

Hopefully your not the type to get a bunch of dogs and fit them all with cages because they all become too overbearing in a group, my sister and brother in law does that, they have 4 dogs which mostly live in the cage as far as I can see, they mainly only get let out to go outside and eat.

My neighbor at the farm does that with a Coon Hound. It hasn't been out of it's cage in years, 6 that I can verify. It barks non stop. It's completely insane. I pray every day that it will simply die. I feel so bad for that dog. Makes me want to beat the owner, seriously beat him...... :(

I stopped at a guys house to look at a cement mixer he had for sale. As I walked down the driveway to the house I noticed a scroungy looking mother German Shepherd sunning herself in the front yard. I disregarded her because we were 75' away and walking past her. All of a sudden I felt something had ahold of my ankle and squeezing it. It let go after a second or so and sauntered away to her lawn. Luckily I happen to have on Sorell snowmobile boots with thick leather uppers so nothing got punctured.

A couple feet farther I saw a 1x4 with a long nail sticking out of it laying beside the driveway so I carried that until we were done with business. Trust them but always keep an eye on certain breeds more than others.

The real truth is that most pit bull owners don't own them because they are sweet pets and good with children.......they buy them as guard dogs knowing full well they are dangerous.
And the dogs are quite literally an extension of the character of their owner.

I hear that a lot and I'm inclined to believe but my experience is different. Virtually every pit owner I have met has been a decent person. Even my neighbor with the aggressive is really a nice guy. Where he falls down is he doesn't really train any of his pack. Neither he nor his wife are aggressive. They are a very nice couple. They just don't see that their pit is aggressive. Of course, when you only have two people living within a 1/2 mile radius of you, you really don't see how the dogs are around people. I don't doubt that there are a lot of pit owners who have them to be aggressive; I'm just lucky or careful enough to not meet those people and I'm hesitant to "paint" decent people with motives they may or may not have.
