My wife will admit one reason why she liked me right off the bat is her dog liked me a lot the first time we met (her dog).

Same here. Her dog was accustomed to a lot of people in the house, as her dad had a business in the home and they did a lot of entertaining, too. Her dog made it very clear that she tolerated strangers, but they were NOT family and they were NOT friends. She was never aggressive, but she kept her distance.

First time I showed up she gave me a sniff and then welcomed me like an old friend.

The way I see it, my dogs job is to alert me to danger. After that, it's my job as their master to protect them.

That is exactly correct!

Yes they're very sad stories most being the result of neglect or someone being introduced into a dogs territory.

But you must not have read the article I posted earlier.

The Lies, **** Lies and Statistics Behind Dog Bites | The Huffington Post

The term "Pit Bull" is a very general term when a dog is unknown on the breed in most of those posts in your article. I bet 80% of those weren't actually "pit bulls"

The American Kennel Club does not recognize a "Pit Bull" breed.

Occasionally when I have an application for a tenant to rent a house, they want to bring their dog and they list the dog as a Staffordshire Terrier which is a recognized breed more commonly known as a Pit Bull.

Their lease application is always rejected for two reasons. My insurance company pointedly excludes coverage for certain dangerous dogs, including Pit Bulls or Staffordshire Terriers.

The applicants know this and lie about it.

I hope you never have a problem with your dog, but as many know, they are documented to be dangerous animals.

Good luck to you......and others that may come into contact with your dog.

My neighbor at the farm does that with a Coon Hound. It hasn't been out of it's cage in years, 6 that I can verify. It barks non stop. It's completely insane. I pray every day that it will simply die. I feel so bad for that dog. Makes me want to beat the owner, seriously beat him...... :(

That is just awful. Your neighbour must be a horrible, horrible person to keep the dog in the cage like that constantly. Very disturbing to hear about this.

In working dogs it's not uncommon to keep them in a kennel, working dogs aren't pets, and owners treat them as such, feed, water and a small dog house.

They only leave the kennel to go to work, hunt ext. when I was growing up my buddies Dad had 4 bagels in kennels that looked kinda like rabbit cages with slab wood floors that piss and poop falls threw under the kennels.

A guy I worked with for a few years had a blue tic in a 8x8 kennel and I had only seen it out a couple times, it was constantly barking when I was over but I never thought much about it being familiar with different hunting dogs.

I have never had a hunting dog and never had the desire for one either. LGDs are similar, your not even supposed to pet those since there work dogs. Just feed, water and shelter

I hope you never have a problem with your gun, but as many know, they are documented to be a dangerous tool and are responsible for a great number of deaths in the United States.

Oh bummer. Very poor comparison....

Yep, that's the kind of comparison you'd only get from a dangerous dog owner. So far, I've never heard of a gun attacking anyone when it's owner wasn't present.

People who don't like guns use the same reasoning.

The medical profession even has documented proof.
Yes and a lot of people say that they do not like the authorities until they actually need them.

My wife's pit "Cady" is a pretty good one. When I cast net fish for mullet in the shallow flats she will wait on the shoreline until I catch some, she'll wait until I break their necks to bleed them out and swim out there and round them up bringing them one by one to the Hill.

She is smart well mannered by all accounts. But when the grandkids come over I pen her up not because I don't "like" her. It's because I know from experience that they have the propensity to turn more so than any other breed. No data required.

Lots of little kids badly injured by those who deny the danger of owning a dog they know to be dangerous!

Occasionally the owner is prosecuted when the dog has already maimed or killed someone......as they should be!
