We have been taking a dump for a long time. They just aren't telling the news how it really is.
Fact is, a $20 gold piece could get you a very nice suit from top grade materials by a good tailor in the year 1850. You still can today as well, you just have to trade that $20 gold piece for the $1200-1400 it is currently worth.
By the same token, a truck from 2000 that would sell new for $20,000, would be worth just over $27,000 if sold new today. No new options added, no age or mileage to consider, both 100% identical and new. If a truck can be worth $7000 more just by the year and decline of the dollar, $30k in options isn't much of a reach in today's world...

My 2012 F150 was 44k msrp. Just checked a comparable 2017 is 52k. Seems like a big increase to me.

Big markup that mostly goes away when you talk to them. My 2015 Lariat was stickered at $49,600 and I signed off on a total that was about $10k less.

I wouldn't give $37k for a 2012 unless it had nearly no miles, only the addons I would add anyways, and had bit of decent warranty of some sort.

That being said I'd not give $52k for a new F150 either. Only stuff that much money buys are things I really don't want or need. My well optioned 2015 Lariat was under $40k and stickered at almost $50k. I just read an article today about Ford advertising over $8k off some of their F150s. If they're advertising $8k off, you can bet there is probably closer to $11k a keen buyer could save over the stickers.
