My buddy was telling me today his new to him JD tractor ( small similar to a BX I guess, never seen it) with hyd lift on snowblower would not raise only push down. I said he has the hoses reversed, and he said no, worked fine till the really cold weather hit us. JD dealer pretty much echoed my words also. Since it's in an unheated garage, he put a heat lamp on the blower cyl and it and it started working again. My thoughts are moisture in system. How does he get rid of it without changing out fluid?

Does the oil look milky? If it does on a small tractor his best option would be to change it. He must have a lot of water in the oil for the blower to not raise. I would be concerned about how the water got in especially with it being garage kept.

Here are some ideas though.

It could be that snow/ice was packed in the front quick hitch and it simply couldn't lift.

That would certainly do it, but he said it would only go one way down, to the point of lifting the wheels but not back up. If it were snow/ice you'd think it would at least return up to that blockage.
I'll see him tomorrow and try and find out more.

Don't know his particulars, but also check that the loader valves are not freezing. On mine, the little "cups" on the valve assembly that houses the return spring(s) (opposite side the from where the cables from the joy stick goes into it) had "jungle air" in them (water/condensate, they were made in Brazil). There must of been a couple tablespoons worth! Once I took them apart I put some northern air in them its been fine.

I was tempted to drill a weep hole in the "cups", but I decided to reserve the right to get stuck up to the axles and bury in water at a future date.

it would be helpful to know if he could put the lever in "float" and see what happened..
if the blower was down with the wheels off the ground, float would allow the lift
cylinder to retract bringing the wheels back down,
if it's new, it shouldn't have any water in the system, but some of the first 1000 series
had issues with the trans oil filler cap leaking and indeed some machines had water
in the system after they sat out in the rain a while..

I've had my 2210 with the quick hitch and the front blower for 11 years in Buffalo winters, buried in snow and have never seen this problem. I suppose it's possible, but I would think I should have seen it.

It was just a thought...
