New GC1710

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice. I am familiar with hydrostatic transmissions and how they operate but something does seem off. If I try to start on a hill I have to roll back down and try again, the wheels dont spin like I lost traction, I just get a whine from the system. Even when backscraping with the FEL, if I get the front wheels off the ground a bit when I don't want to use float I don't go anywhere, pavement or dirt. I checked the sight glass and its still showing color (not white) so I dont think the system is low. Will be contacting the dealer this week to take a look.

almost sounds like you are traveling with the park brake on, I still forget it every now and then. wouldn't hurt to familiarize yourself with the sound of the death whine of your brake.

I rarely throttle into the green and I have been able to push large boulders up steeper/longer slopes with my GC 1705. Even without rear weight. I am pretty sure some of the final assembly and QC is done at the dealer so they may have missed some adjustment or test. You definitely have a problem that needs dealer attention during warranty. Would be curious to find out what the problem and resolution turns out to be.

I would say something isn't right, my 1705 will climb just about anything with a 450lb bush hog and loaded tires at 2200rpm without issue..

What RPM are you trying this incline with?

He said the 'GREEN' range which is well above idle. I have a GC1720 and although it definitely has more torque with a light pedal than a full mash, I have never had it unable to move EXCEPT with the brake on - then that HST whine is awful.

Then something is not right. I use my 1710 in the mountains a lot at 10,000 ft about sea level. Most engines need all the help they can get at that altitude, and my 1710 goes up and down my logging roads in low with little throttle.

After testing the tractor more I believe I found the issue. I don't think I had it shifted all the way into low gear. The range gear lever was not going all the way back and took a bit of playing to get it moving smoothly. I now feel a detent and the level goes further back. Running up slopes and over other obstacles is much better now. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

And if you really want traction. . . Step down on the diff. Lock. If your lo/hi shift catches just a bit. . Shift to hi then neutral and tap the forward pedal just a bit. . Then it should shift smoothly to low.

Haven't messed with the diff lock yet, the 4x4 works pretty good though. Not sure if this is the same for everyone but when I try to shift into low range and release the parking brake I need to let off the brake pedal then push it down again or I cant fully shift into low range. The shifter just stops like its bound up. Going into high works every time as expected.

sounds like a trip to the dealer may be in order, if you can't see any obvious problem with the linkage... no sticks/branches stuck up between anything?
