As an afterthought I remember having our 40ft shallow well tested when we bought our place in 09. County did it for free. When the report came back there wasn't anything wrong with the water except the particulates which a simple filter would take care of. Only reason we can't use that well is that it will go dry in drought conditions. The well that will be drilled is expected to be around 500ft.

And that bottled water came from Flint Michigan

LOL. So I did a quick search on crazy cat people who only use bottled water for their feline friends. Ironically it turns out that it may not be good for them. Who woulda thunk it.

In the end most of it is tap water anyway so you are simply paying a huge markup for tap water that is slightly contaminated by the plastic container. Somewhere a manufacturer, retailer, and trucker have profited from the cats getting bottled water and they certainly appreciate your business.

You can get by the mild acid condition with a calcite filter.

The house had it at one point. It was removed before we bought the place.

We went the plastic pipe route as the copper was already shot. 5 compression unions in the main line alone. LOL!

In the middle east part of Tennessee where I moved to I was surprised that everything seems to be CPVC as I always assumed copper was the way to go. Copper gets eaten up here also but the only answer I can get is because of the very minute impurities in the flowing water is what does it. But I never talked to any body in the know about it.

75 of us live on a small lake and most drink the lake water as it comes from the tap.
The lake is the first in a chain and as such has no inlets and only one outlet.
It is solely spring fed with the thermocline at 8-9 ft.
We test annually at same 20 locations and for 20 years every test comes back 0 bacteria.
Tests taken from taps also come out A1.
Drawing water from 10 ft deep results in getting that nice spring water.
The only problem is particulates suspended in the water but that is handled with filters.
One insurance is to use UV purification system combined with particulate filters.

Downside is that you cannot obtain a mortgage without a well and water test report.

Our well is 140' deep and it's very good. We are in sandy part of the state so I do have a sediment filter on line along with water softener. Our house in plumbed with PEX tubing, which is the latest and greatest on the market now.
The only time I've found bottled water an asset, is when I take off on hunting/fishing trips. We'll take a case or two then.

We have to keep a couple cases of bottled water available for the city folks that visit and fear that everything is out to get them. The news media does a good job of freaking everyone out over simple things.

I'm on a well but do keep bottled water...for only one purpose. I freeze the bottles, throw three in the truck when I go to cut wood then I have half thawed out bottles to sip on on the way home - pure ambrosia after 4 hours of work. I do recycle the bottles, i.e., refill them numerous times with well water.

We keep bottled around for trips only. Drink the stuff from the tap. Same place the ICE comes from ;)

I've got an older just under 100' well and we've been using the water around here long before I was born, unfiltered. I had it tested a few years back, no issues.
