These guys are a great resource for looking WAY back in time - NETR Online Historic Aerials

They had old aerials from 1950 and 1963 of a piece of property we recently purchased that showed that it once was an extensive working farm. The only trace now is a dilapidated root cellar (that evidently a vagrant sometimes squats in). Nominal cost for a downloadable version.

You know what they do at Jehovah's Witnesses' Christmas parties, don't you?

They get drunk and knock on each other.

A good source of historic aerial photos is your state natural resources agency, here in WA. They hold all of the negatives from both the DOT and DNR collections. The DNR has a program to collect all of the non-federal lands every few years. The resolution varies but has been getting better over time. A lot of counties have programs as well. Much of the imagery found on Google comes from these sources. Google has done a very good job of making imagery available to every one.

Years ago a JW family lived next door, we and our kids were friendly with them and their kids, religion talk was avoided and we never had JW knocking on our door. After the neighbours moved away, the JW visits started. What worked for me was this line:
I believe religion is like a *****... it is perfectly fine to have one and take pride in it, but when someone takes it out and waves it in my face, we have a problem.

Now we're back on the 'don't visit' list.

Uglyboywith11fingers...very well expressed on your part. I have no issue at all with those who have different beliefs in sex, politics, religion, etc. but when they want to rub in in my face they have such...they become part of my (bleepoff) list.

When we lived in the City years ago we had JWs for neighbors. When people came over for study group, the kids would play in the backyard, and since we were just about the only ones, who never put up a fence, they thought nothing of using our yard as well as theirs. Ball often hitting the house and windows (never broken). What ever happened to "thou shalt not tresspass". The parents never did bugger all to stop it. I just delighted in putting out the sprinkler.

They are a persistent lot. My guess is they are trained hard not to take a brush off... and stay with the pitch as long as possible. Salespeople like that are a turn off for me regardless of the product they are pushing and I don't put up with it as they are spending my time.

Had a go around with a vacuum salesman. I wasn't doing anything important and after he introduced himself I discoverd taht we were very distant cousins from the same town way back when. I let him give my the 'dirt on rug' - 'look at how good it cleans up", etc. quoted me an outrageouse price. refused, "I'll talk to the boss", goes out comes back and cuts the price by about a 1/4 - still way over market. Nope, okay, I'll talkd to the boss...etc. after 4 reps he had the price down to half what he first quoted and still higher than one in a store. I managed to kill two hours of his time and saved at least one neighbor being bothered by him.

Reminds me of the time my stupid ***** of an ex-wife let somebody sell her a $2600 Kirby outfit she did not even need. I have no idea why anyone wants a door to door salesperson in the first place.

Odds are, the JW will think you said "I'm a moron" so they will continue to be back.... Which says a LOT about them....
