What's the general concensus concerning the use of 3pt limiter chains with a ballast for loader use? Thinking it would be good to get the load off the hydraulics or does it not matter?

I see no need for anything like that.

Doesn't matter. The 3pt is designed to carry heavy loads for extended periods of time. I wouldn't worry about it.

Chains are mostly for maintaining a set height with no drifting lower, but still able to lift.

Or for restricting upward movement of the 3pt beyond a certain point. :)

Your putting a lot of extra stress on that one point. Thy hydraulics were built to support the weight.

Good point. Missed that one. With the chains pictured the vertical stress is transferred from the lower 3pt arms to the top link bracket, which is designed to handle horizontal stresses. :)

I was thinking that too don't seem like a good way to load the top link bracket just figured I'd ask and see what the general thought was I saw someone on here recommend this at some point.

Various operators have various needs.

Don't worry about carrying long term loads on your 3pt. :)

Those chains look like they are on an 8N Ford. I use them on mine because the 3 point hitch raises and lowers (slightly) depending on the engine RPM's. If you are using a mower and trying to maintain cutting height with the 3 point you will constantly be adjusting slightly up and down depending on the load to the engine. With chains you set the mower height with them and drop the 3 point all the way to have the same cutting height and still allow to quickly pick up the mower if you run over something sticking up.
