I live on a dead end road with little foreign traffic that i can see while there. It's funny that a neighbor cleaning his fence row thinks it's ok to throw it into mine, i promptly return it when i can.
A few years back, another neighbor had their driveway concreted, the contractor decided my fence row was a great place for the pavement they dug up, i waited until they left & put it back on their fresh concrete, noticed the neighbor raising heck with the contractor the next morning as i rode by smiling on the tractor while mowing my fence line, bet he won't do that again, yes i can be an @$$ at times.
Another neighbor up the road tore out a brick mailbox & pushed it onto my property, i pushed it back with the loader onto theirs, they never did wave at me again:confused3:
There's more, just a few of my favs.

Recently the entire axle and tires of a semi trailer came through the fence and 100 yards +- into the pasture. Truck must not of even stopped.

Lucky the cows were in another pasture.

Hwy 237 between Hwy 290 and LaGrange Texas

I travel I-35 frequently. Couple weeks ago I was headed home on a flat straight stretch I started noticing vehicles ahead of me swerving around something laying on the white lane between lanes. When I got to it I realized it was a dual wheel assembly off a semi trailer. I called my Son who works for a Tow Company and he called the Highway Patrol. They then called him back and had him bring out a roll-back to retrieve it.

I don't think they teach driver trainees in their couple week truck driving course to keep an eye on their equipment. I can tell stupid human stories for days that my Son encounters with truck drivers......

I cut the grass in front of our place as an act of CIVIC pride. Other neighbors throw their beer cans out onto this same grass. From the brand, I assume, it's always the same guy. I can always tell when the golf course down the road is busy, because Coors Light cans are also strewn around. Maybe, it's about getting rid of evidence. Open liquor and so forth.

Anyway, it's just about different and conflicting belief systems.

Its rude and reflects badly on the one littering!

I just clean it up and go on with the day!

There's a .05c deposit on all bottles & cans here. Plenty of them are pitched out the window, but they do disappear with the roadside picker. It's an inconvenience for those that consume a lot of it, but the deposit works as far as roadside trash, at least some of it. What little bottles we use just go into the recycling.

On the way home some years back, nephew in the car with me. We come up this elderly couple going about 25mph, the woman in the passenger seat rolls down the window and throws out the paper trash from a meal....bag, styrofoam containers, paper cups...all of it, as they go. I stop, nephew jumps out, gathers it up quick, and we speed up to catch up with them. Follow them to their house (I think they were totally oblivious to us following. They pull in the drive, we do too....nephew pitches all the trash out on their lawn, hollers "QUIT LITTERING !", and we drive off. Poetic.

I have a similar mentality.

But trash is wayyyyyyyy down the list.

How about Computer Hackers? Maybe those who use guns to commit a crime? Or how bout career welfare recipients? People who neglect or abuse animals? Rioters? Biased News Reporters? People who illegally park in handicap parking spaces? People who dig thru stuff on store shelves and don't put it back where it belongs? Men who spit their chewing tobacco in urinals? People who talk on their Cell Phones in the checkout line ahead of you?

See how far down the list littering is for me.......

How about crooks like the guys?

Punishment isn't a deterrent for many, as they don't believe they will ever be caught.

If someone had a small punishment EVERY TIME they littered, they would most likely stop.

Bruce

The certainty of punishment not the severity as a deterrent is a long established but commonly ignored fact in criminal science.

I agree. I've been in countries where punishment was certain. Crime was thought of completely different by those citizens.
