Never looked at Wix as quality filters in the past, perhaps something may have changed! But if you think that because it cross references to the original it also has the same filtering capability you may be mistaken. I bet you also buy the cheapest oil on special that week and expect to have the same quality and specs of a brand name synthetic and if something goes wrong with the tractor's engine later on it is the manufacturer's fault for selling such crappy engines. There are things where one shouldn't cheap out in mechanical affairs and they are...oils, filters, rubber and brakes. That's the credo I follow and never had mechanical break-downs that weren't my fault. Sorry I had to get it off my chest, but it is always the cheapskates that have the most troubles.

Well ... Glad you have relief. I used to be just as silly as you appear thinking there is a great disparity between the brands but after decades discovered I was just wasting money.

There are many posts on here from people who had problems with third-party filters that supposedly cross referenced to an OEM part. Be very careful what you use for filters -- check them carefully.

I always used Motorcraft oil filters in my Fords. I know others that did not and had problems. Appears the Motorcraft version has some kind of anti-drain valve that keeps oil trapped in the filter from backflowing or something like that (been a long time ago) ... knew someone that had engine problems/failure and the dealer pinned it on the filter used not having that feature.

I've been watching this topic and figured I would throw in my two cents.

I myself am very picky when it comes to filters and oil, I've had an STP filter collapse internally on me once " perhaps a defect? " it was only one week old and 65lb of oil pressure.

I have a couple Volvo's, they use a cartridge type filter " no outer metal casing " just the filter part, over the years I have tried several different brands of filters, from cheap to expensive.

I run full synthetic Mobil1 oil, I typically change the filters at 3000-3500 and the oil at 7000, my observations are as follows, all the filters appear fine in the 3000 mile range, if I push it to 3500 and above the cheap filters collapse in the middle the more expensive one have not.

The cheaper ones collapse either due to thinner/weaker material and the assumed clogging on the material being used at the center as that's where the primary pressure/suction occurs.
Different filters obviously have different specifications based on oil viscosity and micron capture characteristics.

I may be off topic per the title of the post, it's up to the individual what filter they want to use and where they get it from and the value they derive from their purchase.

What would really be interesting to see if some pictures of different filters cut open after various hours of use to see how the material has held up.

Interesting. That is exactly the opposite of what I have read and heard about Wix. I try not to run anything else, unless I know it's made by Wix.
