Interesting. That is exactly the opposite of what I have read and heard about Wix. I try not to run anything else, unless I know it's made by Wix.

Actually, in that presentation I posted I thought the Wix filter looked pretty good.

I have 3 VW TDI's (old school - pre-scandal, no DPF etc.) and always use MANN or OEM (MANN is the OEM in most cases) oil filters (paper cartridges with no metal shell). Two rigs have bypass setups that use Amsoil Ea-BP90's and I used to do extended oil change intervals back when I was driving 1-1/2 hrs. one way to work. They are all flat tappet engines and you pretty much have to use the highest quality synthetic in them or you will get bit in the buttocks. All are hard on cams.

The Wix and Napa Gold are nicely made, I put a Napa on at the first oil change, they said it was made like the gold.

Interesting post and one that is an interesting topic. The HST filter a unique beast in that the pressures are much higher than the "normal" hydraulic filters. My dealer was happy to take the time with me to find cross references for all my filters. His warning when it came to the HST filter- don't do it! It's not worth it! If the Wix or any other filter is described as a HST filter- have at it. For me? I'll save the $30 once every 500-1000hrs somewhere else! I will, however, continue to use quality aftermarket filters for everything else.

I have no stake in any oil filter company and only go by what tests prove. It may be that NOW it is a better filter, but in the past it was at par with Fram, some of these company have set up a premium line as well. I only go by what you see after you saw off the filter, quality of materials, length of filtering material etc. The SAFEST way to go is to use the OE Mftr brand, but they are not always the best, only sufficient to maintain you warranty. To see what's best you have to destroy the filter and look inside. One way to check (with a grain of salt) is to do a search on uTube, there you'll see them saw the filters and then you can judge. IMO to willfully skimp on filters, oil and rubber is just postponing the expense for a bigger one later on.
