Kubota L2900
Hi, all....am new to the world of tractoring, etc, having just taken over my dad's small acreage in British Columbia. We have a Kubota L2900 with a rear blade that looks like it's seen better days. (dad was HARD on his equipment). Looks like the cutting edge was ripped off at some point, and the rear blade itself has been ground down on one end by about 1-2 inches. So you can't get a flush scrape without adjusting the setup....etc.
I figure my options are to see if I can get a new chunk of iron welded to the blade, or perhaps seeing if I can remove the old blade from the unit and get a new entire blade from Farm King....or a whole new rear blade implement for 500-odd dollars.
Has anyone else had experience in the effectiveness of welding/repairing a blade..or if you can just order a new blade from Farm King. Are they a PITA to remove and remount?

Thanks...

We have almost the same tractor,an L3000.On it we have a light duty 6ft.rear blade. It has held up well, worst thing you can do is try to ":push" with any rear blade, that's how they get messed up.
I would bet it would almost be worth replacing the whole unit and taking care of it.Should last forever just moving snow.

I agree with nybirdman. Just get a complete new rear blade and be done with it. THEN, you may want to try "fixing" the old one and sell it. I have a fairly heavy Land Pride RB3596 and the only thing is ever push is soft, loose snow. I'm not so much worried about damage to the rear blade as possible damage to any of the 3-point assembly on the tractor. When I want to "play in the dirt" I have a land plane grading scraper or roll over box blade.

HArd to say weather its worth repairing without seeing pics.

If the blade is a total POS, probably not worth the time/effort/money. But if its an otherwise decent blade just missing a cutting edge, thats another story.

Can you post some pics

These are fairly inexpensive attachments. I vote for a replacement. My Frontier one has been great.

When you and others say "get a new blade"...are you saying the WHOLE implement, or just see if I can order the blade portion of it and replace the ground-down one?

They are saying buy a whole new attachment. If you post some pictures we could make some suggestions on how much work it will be to make it usable and a good Implement again

The cost of replacing just the blade is likely going to cost almost as much as the entire blade IF you can find a new blade what will just bolt on. I vote to replace the whole blade perhaps with a more robust model.

New implement for sure. Maybe consider a front mount blade this time if the tractor can be equipped that way.
If Dad's hard on equipment, check to make sure the front axle has fluid in it. The L2900 is prone to leakage at the seals. Until the fluid is all gone - then it doesn't leak.

Not sure about Canada, but new blades can be had around here for relatively cheap. I bought a new King Kutter 7' blade last summer for $329 at our local Rural King. If you're just using it to move snow, then you really don't need to spend a fortune for the heaviest duty you can find. As noted above, it'll probably be nearly as expensive to buy new parts for your old implement, plus time to repair.
