Kubota Owners Manual Implement Size guidelines - how strict?

I began to wonder after I got the M6040. How in the h*ll was I going to cover the rear tire width - 80" - with a rear blade only 72" wide. I did some plotting and figured that with the 96" Land Pride RB3596 - offset and angled - I could plow snow out one foot beyond the tire on one side and cover half the tire on the opposite side. This has worked just fine - plowing snow on my mile long gravel driveway. And thats really all I use the rear blade for. If I'm going to grunt in the dirt - I've got a Bush Hog RO720 ROBB or the Land Pride LPGS GS2584. Or a flock of other dirt engagement implements sitting out in the orchard.

I have been looking for an 8' hydraulic angle blade for my MX. Would just love to see a RB3596 come up on the used market somewhere close to me, as I feel that would be a good fit for the MX5100. The 7' HD blade I have now just aint big enough. Its 700#, cuts well, but dont cover the tracks and isnt hydraulic

That's a fact that a lot of folks don't initially understand. How much plowing width you loose when the rear blade is angled. I've tried angling the blade less - by one hole. It will grade the snow just fine but it doesn't discharge so much and I ended up going back to my original setting.

The beauty of the M6040 and this blade - I can break and grade off the berms that eventually form on both sides of the driveway. I had to use a blower with my first tractor - to clear the berms. Three hours looking backwards and being in a constant fog of blown snow led to a lot of stiff necks and sore shoulders.

This^

Based off the manual I got a 7' rake and it's not nearly big enough for the MX.

Like everyone says, it depends on the soil and the final weight of the tractor. My M7040 says the most plow it can pull is two bottoms. Maybe in clay, yes, but easy three bottoms in sandy silt loam. You need experience to learn this stuff and you get the experience from trial and error.

To kthompson and LD1 - thanks for such detailed replies. There's no substitute for experience, and unfortunately I have little so far. It's great to have a resource like the many seasoned posters at TBN. Someday I hope to be able to provide similar assistance to newbies. And I have to say, laughed out loud at LD1's backhoe example - great stuff!

It is easy to push any machine and it may never be an issue or it may. There are those who believe you run the largest size possible and there are those who believe you run a size that leaves some capacity for when you hit the above normal load or you choose to run the tractor at lower rpm but higher gear. Think the saying is throttle down and shift up. A good example is I have a two shank subsoiler. In the sandy field I can drop it and really run as there is so lilttle hard pan in it. Then right near our yard we have a place it can only pull one of the shanks due to extreme thick hard pan. Probably 95% of the time my M6800 easliy handles the two shank subsoiler but there is 5% of the time it has all it can do to pull them. So if I had three shanks as some said it would handle, I would find tractor totally overwhemed and subsoiler not able to be done at times.

My best suggestion to you if at all possible, try to find someone you are able to borrow or try their equipment with your tractor to see how well it handles it. You may need to ask could i bring my tractor over and try your disk or such to see how my tractor handles that size? You will be amaze how many people are willing to help you if you ask.

I read the 3 bottom thing too....I was pulling a 3 bottom plow with a smaller, lighter 2wd tractor and the book for the heavier, more powerful 4x4 said it could only handle two furrows....
