Myself, I would shy away from a tube frame and get a channel iron frame instead. The reason being that tube frames hold condensation and rot out. That is what I have learned in my years in the frozen north.

Have noticed that as well and whenever I build something with tube frame I plug the ends and pour some oil in the tubing.
Have even simply made tapered wood plugs and hammered them in place.
Even humid air will corrode tubing.

Early light aircraft had tubing frames and they generally ran hot raw linseed oil thru the tubed before sealing them.
Linseed oil bonds with rust and seals it off.
Also have brushed linseed oil under fenders as a rust prevention.
Raw oil wont skin up nor retain water.

That is good to know.

and lets not forget the annual yellow sticker safety inspections for both pick up and trailer.

the only work arounds I know of are...
1) trailer is registered as a RV (must be on ownership)
2) you pull it with a SUV not a pick up
3) your combined actual weight (scales under all 4,6,8 or 10 tires) is under 10K
4) you have farm plates...and are engaged in farm buisness

Are you sure about that? I was told by the police that it is the CAPACITY, not the actual weight that matters. So, if you have a 5k truck and a 7k trailer (for a total of 12k), you need the sticker - even if you never tow more than a total of 5k (including trailer weight) with the trailer.

Don't particularly believe what the police have to say. They are not the experts and sometimes contradict the MTO. If unsure, call the MTO.

Here is a link that may help but best to check with the MTO to be sure or read the elaws.

MTO - Annual Truck and Trailer Safety Inspections

Getting pulled over is painful enough without having violations.

Some definitions used by MTO are quite literal as I was pulled and cited when towing my car to the races at Toronto Motorsport.

Said I was commercial as may get compensation in cash or kind. Fun, fun, fun.

No offense intended, but.......
I am an American with a seasonal residence in Canada.
Have heard that a farting permit will soon be required in Canada.
Permit required for EVERYTHING!

No offense taken but the farting permit is only required for part time Canadians as we all recognise that they may be full of hot air. :D

I'll shut up now.

Canada needs ALL THE HOT AIR it can get!
Requiring permits will drive it even further South!

Sorry I would have answered sooner but there was a oot of snow shoveling to get to a computer. Total weight of the truck and trailer combined is another regulation. Then there is how much trailer weight is carried on the truck's drawbar, gooseneck or fifth wheel.

There is a half baked class A truck license in ontario for light trucks with 10,000lb plus trailers . Not valid for a real semi truck.
