Do you have a drone?

   / Do you have a drone? #51
I got one for Christmas in 2015 - over a year ago. I can't remember the brand but wife said it was over $1,000 and a very good one. I have not even taken it out of the box.

It may gain in value. My wife and children have some Star Wars collectibles NIB from the 1980's. A USED VINTAGE STAR WARS, ESB, MILLENNIUM FALCON VEHICLE W/ BOX - 1980 is going for over $180, a NIB over $300.

In Colorado there are counties that will issues a hunting permit for drones for $25. If you have one and its over your property and your property is in an area where you can discharge a firearm then your clear to drop the thing.

We had a very large hawk drop a neighbor kids drone, it was hilarious. Not a big drone just a small <6inch stunt drone but the hawk thought it was interesting enough to attack. The hawk hit this thing like he'd hit a pigeon, and then flew off with it.

Drones: Deer Trail, Colorado, Votes Against Drone-Hunting Licenses | Time.com

Colorado Town Won't Issue Drone-Hunting Licenses
The tiny town of Deer Trail, Colo., (pop. 561) became famous last year when a resident named Phil Steel made a proposal: Deer Trail should offer hunting licenses for shooting down drones that might fly into the hamlet’s airspace. When local officials split on whether to approve the ordinance, the issue went to the voters — who finally decided against the idea on Tuesday.

People use credit cards, carry smart phones, use EZPass, and the government has drones and satellites that can gather all kinds of data about you without even knowing. Those same people get all heated up that a neighbor might fly over their house with a drone. Makes absolutely no sense to me. I've never even seen another drone other than mine.

Don't forget about using those rewards cards so they can keep track of what your buying at the grocery store and relay that info to your insurance company.

The thing with these new drones, there is NO pucker factor anymore. These things are designed to "fly" by computer.

Take me back to the old days with the cox engines, castor oil and fly by wire, or move up a notch the r/c aircraft of old and the micro-flights.

Heck, I don't even break a sweat now. No adrenaline rush.

Agreed. I sometimes lament that it's so easy anyone can do it. Then I rejoice that its so easy anyone can do it. Easy to turn the controls over to a complete novice and let them have fun for a few minutes without fear. As a much younger man I've had two motorcycles returned to me all banged up by people who "knew how to ride". Drones are way to expensive to wreck them so I'm happy to fly without the rush.

I don't want one, but I "need" one..... I have no opposition to them. I see the value of their use commercially as their abilities advance.

My large farmer buddy was opposed to them on the invasion of privacy philosophy.

Then his two Sons and Son-In-Law educated him on how it can be used in their farming operation. I don't know the make/model, but it's extremely "intelligent". Can be linked into their computer system and "plot" fields. Very long fly time and range.

I've posted this before, but here's a pic they took with it.

Much more useful information than this picture my Mom took of me in 1959...... :)

They are a luxury toy for most. I don't use mine commercially and I should pull it out more often. Garandman, I like your idea. I think I will do the same and surprise my neighbors each with and aerial shot as a gift. Or maybe I should ask them first? I would never shoot a drone down unless it was truly invasive but we all have limits.

I'll eventually buy one. What holds me back now is the technology is changing so fast. For example, if I paid $1000 for a drone today, a year from now that same technology will be $700.....

My neighbor kid has one. When it warms up I'm gonna pay him to take some aerial shots of my farm. He's 10 years old. He's all about it. :)
