You probably have no interest in this from a practical standpoint, but if you have a minute, take a look at this young lady (Diana) from that same website that combined her sewing skills with antenna crafting to make a portable antenna suitable for amateur satellite work. I find her inventiveness and flair interesting.

I forgot to say, I use one of those flat antennas, I don't get as many channels but I guess it looks better than rabbit ears. Signal gets choppy during heavy rain and snow like satellite.

Be careful when these antenna's say "Works with any TV", some of the newer TV's like the Vizio I just bought don't have a built in tuner. So NO, they won't work with any TV.

Here is another good Website that will show what you can receive OTA: TV Fool

We have to use an antenna that will work on Hi-VHF and UHF.

This one is designed for UHF only:

I have a Vizio bought about a year ago. Works fine receiving digital channels with my over the air antenna. I get 36 channels. It used to work on cable but they somehow scrambled or moved all the channels to other frequencies the TV won't decode and I would have to get their adapter / converter box to get them again, of course there is an additional monthly fee. Tired of the greed of all TV signal providers jacking the rates up after the promotional period ends.

Yes Suddenlink (local cable provider) here switched all of their channels to a scrambled format. And you have to have their set top box to receive anything. This way they can package and group the channels any way they want or even sell them ala carte if they wanted to. Not a single channel is decodable without the box. They provided us with 2 boxes for free (for now) and each additional box is $3.95 per month.

Wife and I bought into the "Dish" networking system when our kids were young. It seems that every time we get a bill they raise it five bucks so we decided to cancel and go back to our TV antenna. We got the lowest package that they offered. I was telling a co-worker of mine this story and he says that I will not be able to do that unless I get some kind of box. According to him a few years ago the government or someone came up with this deal where you have to install some kind of box in order for your TV to work with an antenna. Anyone know anything about what I'm trying to say here? What are some of you folks doing that live out in the country. If you do indeed use a satellite dish who is it with and how much do you pay a month? Thank you very much for your responses. It's appreciated. RRM

Easiest way to watch TV aside from the FREE OTA is online. Many free channels for things like weather, movies, etc.. Many subscriptions for less than $10 (amazon, hulu etc) up to about $50 for services like Sling, DirecTVNOW, play station vue, etc.. where you can get most anything you want from live sports (ESPN, FS1, etc)to spanish speaking networks as well as stuff like History, National Geographic, HGTV, etc..

The days of paying $100 for cable/sat are coming to an end for many people.

The provider here is Time Warner and they did offer a free box for one year. After that I think it was ($3 something a month). I chose not to get the free box and will be changing providers in a few months to get a better deal. I did call them complaining about the price but they won't give me a lower promotional rate
which is LESS than 1/2 of my current rate. Current package is Cable, internet, and home phone and if I cancel the service they would call me back within a day or so and offer the promo rate but they won't give it unless you cancel.
