Flu vaccination, yes or no.

I got my flu shot, pneumonia and shingles vaccine. I never got the flu even without the shots but now that I am getting on up in age, I think it prudent to get vaccinated for anything that I can.
I am very pro-active about children getting their used to be required shots prior to entering school and my personal belief is that if parents don't want to have their kids vaccinated, then they should be made to home school them. Their kids get sick and then contaminate the whole school including the teachers. There are some "freedoms" that should require compulsory things to go along with them. One should not be free to spread a disease among the public that can be prevented by proper medicine.

I might add that after getting flu and pneumonia shot at the same time, I did feel a bit achy the following day, but never bad enough that I couldn't do what ever I wanted to do. Just the flu shot alone never has any effect on me.

About twenty five years ago my wife and I came down with the flu. We had it at the same time. Our living conditions were less than perfect. It was New Year's day. We were incredibly sick for a couple weeks and it was all we could do to maintain and take care of ourselves, livestock. It was clear to us what was meant in describing the great flu epidemics in the history books. People died in droves. We were sick as sick and debilitated as can be.

You will find those who say "nope" to vaccinations and modern science.
I say yes to vaccinations and modern science.

Since then we both get them in the early fall or fall, with out fail. We have had some flu a couple times, but we would not go without getting a flu shot. Ever. We have had both pneumonia shots and shingles shots. IMHO neither of those should be overlooked.

Just wondering who does or doesn't get the flu shot every fall, I have been getting it for several years now and this year I also got a "Shingles vaccination, flu shots are free in Ont. and shingles vac. is free for anyone from 65 to 70 years of age. Flu has never been an issue with me but I figure better to be safe or somewhat safe, no guarantees. never had any reactions.
No and I have a steel roof, no shingles needed.

This year they guess wrong, and the flu strain in the vaccine is not the one that is circulating now. The hospitals are full of flu victims, and there have been 8 deaths locally in the last 2 months. In the years when they guess right, flu vaccine works good. If they guess wrong, you are on your own. If you get the vaccine regularly for 20 or 30 years, you will have a little residual immunity to a lot of strains, that might save you from a long dirt nap.

Younger I never would get one. Then 10-15 years ago I got the flu, which I have had several times in the past, but that one knocked the crap out of me. I was out of work for nearly a week, and as I was getting better it relapsed. I don't ever remember being that sick before that. Since then I have been getting it every year and never again have had the flu. I also got the shingles and this year I will get the pneumonia vaccine.

Never had a flu shot, and no plans to get one in the near future. Yes, I have had the flu on more than one occasion, and yes, it is miserable. However, the flu shot is a crap shoot every year, so there's no guarantee they'll guess the right strain. Read somewhere recently that there are about 144 different varieties of influenza. Seems pretty slim odds that they'll get it right. No thanks. I was vaccinated against measles, mumps, and chicken pox as a child back in the '60s ... got all three anyway. Not against vaccination, just not interested in that one.

I've never had a flu shot and I don't plan to have one. A few years ago a neighbour, who was over ninety years old and had never been sick a day in his life, had a flu shot in the morning and died in the afternoon. Coincidence? Maybe or maybe not.

My Dad died at 73, I get the shots, I am 81. Coincidence?

Your 'incident' trying to tie to a shot is bizarre.
