Home remedies for ear wax

I have had the Waterpic used on my by a doctor. Worked quite well.


These days, I just use a jackhammer.

It is frowned upon on the internet. But my wife has "candled " my ears which is a home remedy from Amish in Ohio that she learned.
It's basically a hollow candle that I lay my head in her lap and she holds a hollow candle in my ear for a bit that the heat (in theory) melts wax and the updraft pulls the wax up into the candle.
Yes. The internet says it's dangerous and hogwash. So don't do it just because I do!
I have seen the wax pulled into the candle though and can hear better whenever it has been done I think.
The only problem I have is that the combination of the warm heat and a comfortable lap to lay in makes me fall asleep every time!

I use the hydrogen peroxide too. I have to lay down on the couch or floor because all that bubbling makes me dizzy and a little nauseous too. I mean flat out dizzy too.

Use unbleached cotton and bees wax. I have heard that in Ontario it is illegal to 'candle' ears. I say hogwash, it is only the quacks trying to pump your ears full of snake oil.
I have had it done that way too. Yes, you mess with my ears when I am horizontal and I fall right to sleep.

My MD'S nurse used 50/50 hot water and hydrogen peroxide to net a lukewarm solution she sprayed in with a big syringe...

If you think that candling the ear works, take one of those candles, and place it in the users position, (as if it was in your ear) and light it, letting it burn down as if it was in your ear. You will see that the stuff at the bottom of the funnel that you think is your removed ear wax when you use it in your ear, is the same stuff that is in there now. So much for the that! Bob

Just wanted to add my fix. Had so much trouble with my ears over the later years. I had to go to the Drive by Doc 4 years ago. They fixed me up and I paid attention to detail on the fix. I then found their system on the net and ordered it. Amazon.com: Elephant Ear Washer Bottle System by Doctor Easy: Health & Personal Care. Start by Hydrogen Peroxide in ear, head tilted for about 5 minutes. Then to bathroom sink for spray treatment. Fill bottle with mixture of vinegar, rubbing alcohol, warm water. Spray ear gently and wash out the crud. Both ears about take about 15 minutes to finish. Its amazing the hearing is back to normal and good for another month or so. Hope this helps someone else.

It also says an internet to use mineral oil and rubbing alcohol with a 50/50 mix and put that in you ear.

I get really itchy ears if I don't dry them out after each shower. A q-tip is way to large so I roll up the corner of a sheet of kleenex. I rarely have trouble with wax in my ears. If I do an ear washing bulb with warm water gets all the wax out.

If I can't get it out with just the bulb syringe, I soak it in olive oil for awhile and try again.
