Anyone use an OBD2 trouble code reader for their tractor. If so please provide your experience and or results.

I have an advanced system designed to be used with my VW cars but never thought to do this... interested as well.

I've read here that this works and confirmed with my dealer pre purchase. I just haven't gone out and plugged my reader in.

Yeah I have and it works to read and reset trouble codes just fine. I used my OBDII scangauge2 that I normally have hooked up in the truck. >> ScanGauge II

Have OBDLink SX cable with laptop software also have ELM327 wifi both work to identify the TDC. However, some codes are manufacture defined codes which the readers cannot provide further info. on other than the code number, such as P1804 (Mahindra manufacture defined) Does ScanGauge II work on diesel tractors?
Would like to gather a list of Mahindra manufacture defined TDCodes

I have a KW808 type, and it works fine. Only used it to confirm the idiot operator set the MIL light due to his ineptness in properly starting his shiny new tractor.

If the tractors have a obd-II plug you can pull the codes, however the codes may be different when being read on different software

The scangaugeII captures stored trouble codes and will reset the MIL, that is the check engine light and erase the code or codes. The scangauge just provides the numeric code so you have to look up online or in a service manual to determine what the meaning of the fault code is but that is usually easy to find online somewhere.

Many trouble codes are standardized which is what OBDII is all about. OBDII was a federal mandate and requirement to prevent manufacturers from keeping the stuff proprietary and secret as they did before the OBDII standard was put into practice in order to give consumers a wider choice when it came to getting their vehicles serviced. Some things like the smog control stuff are covered under the mandate but a few things like accessories etc. are not so those can vary as to application and maker. The OBDII standard was mandated on all cars produced and sold in the US since 1996 and it's now the CAN standard which the scangauge also reads. The same standards but under different names are mandated in Europe. The data interface actually relies on the simple two wire, I squared C, sometimes written as I2C, serial interface that was developed by Philips way way back but it and variants is used in many other applications like OBDII, many kitchen appliances, etc. etc. etc. It's used inside a lot of stuff and can be used royalty free today as the patent for the original I2C expired a while back, maybe 10 years or more ago.

Actually the numeric code would be the same, just the meaning of some of the codes may vary as to maker and application. Many if not most of the codes are standard and universal.
