GOLDENROD 496-3/4 WATER-BLOCK FILTER How good is it?

Concerning flow...

How does the Goldenrod waterblock filter affect flow rate when used with a 15gpm 12v pump?

When looking at the specs, the filter says it has a 5gpm rate max? I am unclear on exactly what it means. This is per Tractor Supply website "Allows working pressures of 150 psi and flows of 5 gpm (gravity fed) at 24 in. head".

Does it diminish pump flow to 5gpm as well? That seems awfully slow and might determine whether I purchase the GPI M-150 vs the 8gpm version.

That means with 2' of head (outlet of the hose being 2' lower than the top of the liquid) it will flow 5gpm based on gravity alone. If you change that to 4' of head it's probably 8gpm or something. It will flow more than 5gpm. They are just saying it's rated for 5gpm with a new clean filter with a specific pressure behind it (2' of head). They aren't saying that's the max GPM it will flow under better conditions.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Thanks

I didn't want to waste capacity on a pump if the filter was going to be holding things up.

How big a tank are you filling? I went with a smaller pump to avoid splashing and foaming of fuel. Given my tractor tank is a little over 7 gallons, I figured an extra 30 seconds was not worth the spills. I guess I am getting old, and a few more minutes to do something is better than rushing and messing things up.....which I am good at :D:laughing::thumbsup:

I bought their cheapest pump and use the Goldenrod water filters. I never measured the flow but filling my tractor the fuel blasts out of the nozzle and when you get to the neck of the tank you have to wait for lots of bubbles to evaporate. Personally I wouldn't worry that much about it. Hasn't seemed to be a problem on a quick fill.
