hi, I am rebuilding a 1710 I bought cheap. I am having the engine bored now. I just got a tractor with the sync. trans. I am planning to put a fel on it. would like to hear some opinions on the two trans. it will also have fwd. and power steering. the tractor with the sync. trans is a parts tractor, lol I guess the one I bought first was a parts tractor too. thanks Don

thanks BigDog1956, your tractor is just what I want but with ag tires. won't be pushing snow lol. Not good on the computer so I don't know about pics. Hope I can get some feedback on the non syc. trans.

My 1710 has the syncro transmission while my 1600 does not. Mighty small difference to me, since the syncro only lets you shift on the go within a given range, which is only 3 gears on a 1710. Enjoy the seat time, because the loaders on these Fords are, well they are strong but the slowest tractor loader I have ever run. Run your front tires at max psi, because when you do get a full bucket, they will barely carry the weight, at least if they are 6:00 x 16 like mine.

thanks Wolfy, thats the kind of imfo I am looking for. also does the scyncro seem to holdup as well as the non. does your tractor have power steering ?

You can not go wrong with either transmission. Very reliable, just be sure to come to a 100% stop forward to reverse and range to range and all will be well. My 1710 has power steering but it was an early "assist" design, nowhere as strong as a 20 series or anything 10 years newer. I find the faster I am driving, it steers easier. Still, both tractors run great, Shibaura made an excellent engine and both tractors are best buys.

Bingo. But waiting gets old with a lot of shuttling, like loader work or trimming around trees. I had a 1920, cousin to the 1710, with a non-synchro and it's the only thing I didn't like about that tractor. You also had to wait for the engine rpm to drop before each shift.
