Any tips on removing the gland nut from a Koyker 140 lift cylinder?

Crescent has done nothing but tear it up.

does the tube have a small slot in it, if it does there is a wire in it that has to come out. if not make a box end wrench out of a piece of flat bar to were you can hit it with a hammer

I'm pretty sure that's a wire retained gland, it appears the access is on the right hand side of the barrel a little bit down in the picture.

Those pack of rats lock tite that gland nut,heat it up to at least 300 degrees,then gently tap it with a hammer 360 degrees around the thread base,then take the cylinder to a bench vice clamp it on the flats on the packing gland,not to tight it will egg shape,after securing the cylinder use a large pipe wrench on the end of cylinder or a long bar through the pin retaining end of the cylinder and have fun..! I had to mill those flats on my packing gland,I destroyed those flats on the packing gland..
