New Deere lineup changes? 5000R..?

I would agree with the wider choices of radials like in Europe. When I got a new JD 5520 (90HP) about 10 years ago, I put wider Firestone radials on and it made a phenomenal improvement in lugging performance and compaction difference. Compared with a similar tractor with bias tires, I can mop the floor with them. On one hand I can float over a septic system or wet lawns and on the other hand pull a chisel plow through rough stuff with little resistance.

It has crossed my mind to trade up to a newer JD for some of the transmission options but am unsure because of the newness of things and the lack of commentary on what's good or bad and needed or not needed. Please keep the comments coming and offer lots of personal opinion if you care to.

I just finished 2 days of training in Orlando with JD, the 5r really is a impressive machine. You can almost run the whole tractor with the joystick. The instructor said these tractors are designed more for hay work, smaller turning radius is a huge plus, loader tucked in closer to the tractor was nice as well.
I took a few photos with the phone, if I can figure out how to upload them I will.

These seem to be direct competitors to the 5600 series Massey Ferguson tractors.

Yup.. Good point! Both machines spec out very closely. It'll be interesting to see how the Massey's price out against the new Deere's.

I just went through a few websites in Germany and Swiss. This tractor caught my eye and I've tried to get some more info than what's posted on John Deere's website.
It's going to be built in Augusta, has many items inherited from the 8 series in the cab.
They say the base model should be in the neighborhood of 10000 lbs.

But the last thing put a big knot in my throat: DPF only.

Do they really want to go the same way like Navistar/International with their 2010 MAXXFORCE engine?
To meet the emissions standard with DPf only, means a lot of exhaust gas has to be recirculated. That's not the best solution at all.

It killed a lots of International's customers. Those trucks are called boat anchors in some forums.

I thought Deere could do better than that.

Bavarian--so, what is the answer? What should they do?

Reduce EGR as much as possible. The way it looks like, they went the other way to get rid of the DEF. I hope for the prospective owners that this won't become a costly mistake.
I'm not absolute sure, but it seems like Fendt an Deutz are DPF free in that HP range.
Case/NH were free of EGR for a long time with their IVECO powerplant.

Cummins released their new X15 engine lately. What I heard about is they got rid of EGR all together.

Shoving exhaust gases down the engines throat doesn't do any good. This only produces more soot in the engine which has to be filtered out by the DPF.
Running lower amounts of EGR increases the NOx levels. Those can be easier treated with DOC and DEF, IMO.

I sure don't know it all. Time will tell.

When I looked at the release video, it looked to me that the engines are very similar to the current M tractors. I noted that the emission technology utilized DEF, EGR, and both SOC and DOC.

At least, that is what I recall. And, that is more or less what the M tractors use as well.

You are absolute right. They are used in a mix of them, a little bit of everything.

The killer is, when they try to meet the emission standard with the DPF only.

International/MAXXFORCE is proof of it.
