Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

"Hypothetically," yes ... a dishonest person certainly could do that.

And of course HF is a highly ethical company that provides top notch customer service, spare parts, uses it's own designs, never knocks off competitors etc etc so they are deserving of similar ethical treatment. Do unto others etc. Ever tried to buy a spare part from HF for one of it's products????

Just an FYI here but this thread is about to reach 700 pages. It started in 2008 so it's nine years old. That's pretty amazing.

Yep, well stated! That kind of crap just raises prices for the rest of us!

Disappointed to find that that you fall out on the "dishonest" side of this issue.

I've never done that switcheroo with a used item, it wouldn't feel right. But for something dead out of the box, never used, I think it would be fair to get the value you paid for.

Note they allow you to take in a coupon and apply it to a recent purchase for a small refund. I suppose this is to avoid physical return/repurchase of that item.

Most stores will do the price adjustment specifically to prevent the return and repurchase.

Many credit cards extend warranty and will do a return if the seller won't. So better ways to deal with the problem than to be dishonest.

I don't scam HF because I research their products and don't buy stuff that is unsupported. I buy electric stuff only on sale and only if I think it will be justified financially if it just works for one project. However, I don't pontificate if someone else plays the game to counter their crappy customer service, poor quality control and most importantly the utter unavailability of spare parts or technical support when something goes wrong. Those are business decisions that HF makes that are clearly not treating their customers well so why not simply play their own game back at them? They could and should stock or at least make replacement parts available by mail order. They don't. They treat their own products as throw away but that is not how they advertise them. They are deceptive and actually publish product guides/manuals that show replacement parts that are simply not available to order. Their "extended warranty" is simply a one time replacement program. If you use the one or two year "warranty" it becomes invalid and you need to repurchase another extended warranty. HF plays all sorts of deceptive games to dupe their customers so do I feel bad when someone "cheats" them? No.

I will never buy another NiCad battery powered tool ever. If you want to save money get a Ryobi lithium 18v. If you want something that will last decades get a Makita, Bosch, DeWalt, Fein etc 18V Lithium. For something to be used occasionally and mostly just around the house, the 12v lithium tools from Ryobi, Makita, Bosch are really very good.
Got a Milwaukee 12v fuel impact and drill combo. The are crazy strong!
Every digital camera I've ever owned (that used AA batteries) recommended using NiMH rechargeables, and recommended against standard-duty batteries. I have NEVER gotten several hundred pictures out of a set...I'm lucky to get 70 or 80.

That having been said, I wonder if anyone at HF got the irony of recommending "heavy duty" batteries only for low-draw devices. :confused3:
