My son is moving here soon, building a large 3-4 bay garage to work on his cars.

Question for the Brain Trust: what would be a good way to use my tractor to move around cars that are not running? (I would expect that to mean lifting the front end, and dragging them around.)

Ball hitch on 3 point hitch?

Root rake arms underneath bumpers?

Fork lift arms on 3 pt hitch?

Boom pole with chains??

Maybe just chains attached to 3 pt hitch?

TIA, Dave

Well I have more "thinking points" than solutions but hey ya gotta start somewhere.

How often are you going to be moving them? - The more often you move - the nicer solution I would want (personally), less often then less elegant things can be done.
Are you just pulling them out of the way or are you going to have to maneuver them around frequently and jockey them in & out of the garage?
Are you pulling a vehicle with all 4 wheels in place or will you need to lift them partially to move them?

You could go from something very low tech & "Shade Tree" like this guy

All the way up to something as fancy as fabricating your own integrated lift set-up (I had to look up what they were called - always called them easy-unders around here)

Being on a tractor vs a truck - visibility to the rear is better so 3pt solutions would work, but if you're looking to really jockey stuff around and get in and out of tight places then you may want to rig something on the FEL instead so you can see what you're doing without being turned around all the time.

Sounds like a fun project to play with at least. Best of luck with whatever you come up with.

Make something similar to a wheel lift , like on the back of tow trucks . Make it for the 3 point hitch .

If you have 2 people (1 on tractor, 1 in car) you can easily tow a disabled car around the yard with your tractor and a chain. To get it in the garage the disabled car can be pushed with the tractor. Just need a couple old tires between the bumper and loader for protection against scratches. You wouldn't want to scratch the loader.

Not sure of the 3 pt. lift cap of your tractor but I have used forks on the 3 pt. or also have used front QA forks to lift the front of a car then ran a safety chain from car to forks so it can't slide off then moved it around.

I like the idea of using a wheel lift on the 3 point hitch. Anything else will risk scratching up customers cars.

I like the wheel lift idea, but unless you have a bigger tractor than the one in your profile I don't see it working.
