Yeah, but the 3 Speed HST on the 1526 has the ranges to still get enough to the ground. I would not fear the 1526 HST, except for field work the shuttle would put more HP to ground.
The 8 x 8 semi synchro mechanical shuttle seems to be a good transmission, I like it far better than a straight 3x2 grind them or find them straight gear I moved up from. With the shuttle I just putter along at <1500 RPM, nice and quiet, save fuel, no hydro whine. Kubota got it right when they offered the 3 speed HST on the B series.
About only place I would want an HST pedal is close in loader work, backing up to implements, Loading shiny new Pickups, etc. for the easy fine control. Still I like the 8 forward and reverse speeds the shuttle offers.
My 2 lawn tractors are HST.

I bought a Max 26 HST last fall and traded it back in a week later for the 1526 HST. Max was a nice little unit but I found low range geared a little too high as the tractor had difficulty getting all available power to the ground when used for heavy ground engaging type work. If I was going to primarily mow with it, and do light to moderate earthmoving I probably would have kept it. In my experience, the 3 range HST tranny on the 1526 does a more effective job of getting power to the wheels. A larger and heavier chassis make it less ideal for mowing your yard than the Max, but it is far superior for any material moving/ground engaging tasks. Would ask your dealer if you can demo each on their lot and push/scoop into a pile of loose material or fill a box blade behind each one. Good luck!

If you go HST yes the 1526 offers the 3 range that makes a huge difference... I reeeeeaaaallllly like the little 26shuttle for size needs and power to the ground, easy to haul/keep

Max28 is my little chore tractor, putt-putta-putt!

My 1526 bucket curl cylinder mod and big counter weight, allow it to do larger tractor jobs too.

I wouldn't own a shuttle if an hst was available. For that matter, I'd buy a different brand if I couldn't get an hst in a Mahindra. I see absolutely no reason to even offer a shuttle if an hst was available. Operationally, the hst is far superior in every way. The only reason for a shuttle, is operational preference.

That's my opinion and I am unanimous in that.

HSTs are for sissies and pantywaists. They should all come in pink. :stirthepot:
