I made some popcorn in a pan last night and was thinking about Jiffy Pop popcorn. I remember eating it as a kid and I was wondering why my mom bought the stuff since it is so easy to make popcorn on the stove. My guess was Marketing. Most likely I saw a Jiffy Pop commercial and nagged my mother to buy some.:laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan
I thought Jiffy Pop was an techno marvel the first time I seen it in person.

After avoiding it for many years, a couple of years ago, I decided to try a can again, and yep, it's still just as bad tasting as I remembered it.

"Store bought". Yep, that was a somewhat derogatory term around our house most of the time. At least when it came to food.

TBS

When my mom remarried into a family with kids still at home, she made some jam. The youngest said, "That's almost as good as store bought!" He didn't make many points that day.

Funny several here had pizza for the first time in OKC. My mom has told me she had pizza at Sussey's in 1956 for the first time. Sussey was on to something.

I had my first bagel while well into college.

We used to eat cornmeal mush for breakfast....loved it. I also remember the golden arches saying...."over one million sold." Growing up in So Calif......I remember in the 60's a fast food place called "Chicken Delight". Mom would order a bucket of chicken and it was delivered. "Don't cook tonight....call Chicken Delight!" Also remember when there was only one In&Out Burger.

Our modern water pressure system was a piston pump sucking water out of the well and going into a 45 gallon barrel in the atic.
cold water only. You wanted hot water? Put a bucket or 5 of it on the stove for your bath. Dad refused to built a outhouse. The toilet flushed just like the ones in the city. The flush water came from the barrel in the atic.
It wasn't until 3 years before we sold that house that he hooked up the plumbing to the kitchen taps and did away with the hand pump. also put in a proper pressure system, all run off that little piston pump. Pump was made by Otaco out of Orillia, ON.
