Some Government Bureaucrat inspected our community Potable water well and the aluminum well cap is cracked and he made all the appropriate threats if we didn't get it replaced. I'm trying to find a replacement cast iron or fabricated steel 10" cap. All I can find is a cast aluminum for $750. We're a small (70 lots) and just don't have that kind of money. I've Googled till I'm all Googled out. This "Internet of Things" is more like "Internet of No-things". Any body got suggestions of a supplier that would actually show his product and prices on line. I would fabricate our own cap but wouldn't know if that would be consider "approved" by who knows. bjr

Could you just have a welder weld the crack closed?

Undoubtably your cracked well cap is cast aluminum and should be able to be welded. I would call around and find a welding shop that can handle this job. Take the cap off the well - put a plastic garbage bag over the open casing and band it down with a nylon zip tie while the original is being welded.

I think all you will find that are universally available will be cast AL. Sometimes "appropriate threats" are all that government officials have when they are lacking of sound advice.

10" is large enough for a small child or animal to fall into. I'd cover it with more than a plastic bag.

I would ask your "official" for specifications or a list of approved manufacturers.
Depending on what type of pipe the well casing is made of there will be cheaper options. If it is ductile iron or steel you could use a megalug with an M.J. cap. If it's cast iron then a hub fitting might work.
You could make a cap out of concrete and set an eye bolt in it to facilitate removal.
I would not spend a bunch of time until you know this guys expectations...otherwise you might just Pi&& him off.

Check with local fabrication shop to make one out of stainless steel.

Can you show a picture of your well cap. $750.00 for a well cap no way I would pay that.
