Yanmar RS1200 Tiller Question

   / Yanmar RS1200 Tiller Question #11
Winston if that tiller was in my area I would buy it for sure. That's a reasonable price, even though it looks rough it should work just fine for richriddle. Not sure how far he is in Kentucky from Texas but maybe worth a trip. Here that tiller would go for $500 or better

I know the tiller I have came with too link and drive shaft. If t didn't it would need the modifications like California described and yes an added cost for sure.

Thanks for the picture careyo63. I didn't have mine available to take a picture, so hopefully that will help richriddle out.

If I didn't have a tiller I would sure be there looking at it. I moved my three point pins forward enabling normal 3 point usage but didn't have to cut anything off the main drive tube.

Nicely done Winston. Those pictures will make a nice reference for many others on here.

Found the other pic.s of the Top view and the setup of the Yanmar Org. mount. Simple and would be a lot easier to fabricate. The shape of it really doesn't matter all your after it to do is have a movement of out then up when lifting the tiller. I'm taking it that is what was needed for winstons to work on a Kubota considering the Orange wheels?

Yes I remember this topic and those pictures before. Also a good reference.

   / Yanmar RS1200 Tiller Question #19
Does a YM147D have sufficient power to use a Yanmar RS1200 48" tiller? There is a RS1200 for sale locally at far too high a price ($900) and it really might not be worth the effort to get it down to an appropriate price. That said, if the seller does accept a reasonable offer, will the 147D have sufficient power to operate the tiller? Thank you.

Your YM147D has far less Hp than my V-twin Craftsman mower. To get it to till-the-soil and move you along would place great strain on the little machine. Even the King Kutter XB may be too much for your tractor. It's designed to be the smallest CAT-1/-0 tiller on the market right now. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200311201_200311201

Now, with that said, there are 4-ft tillers that have drive motors to run the tiller independently. Most PTO tillers need around 30Hp to do the job properly.

Years back, Simplicity, Workhorse and other 3pt CAT-0 lawn tractors had these mini-tillers. Hunt around for those.
MF/Snapper Garden Cat-0 PTO tiller 42" 1855 is one of them. Some of the CAT-0 tiller are 2,000rpm and other 540rpm. Thus, when you find one, look up the specs on the web or email the seller to ask. There are RPM reducers too. Just got to know what to connect.

AND, your YM147D will need front weights too. Many of these tillers range from 400lbs to 600lbs.

Maybe it's time to upgrade to a larger Yanmar?

The key to that though is torque though. that's what does the work not HP. I am sure that v twin would bog and die hooking a tractor sized tiller to it.

And your estimations are a bit off I have used a 4 foot tiller with a 20hp PTO tractor and it easily tills the soil and way less than full throttle even.

Torque here is the key to doing the work and these diesels have tons of that. I have a 20ish horsepower riding mower that 42" cut there is no way even set to the highest setting that it could go out through some of my fields and cut the same grass that my tractor cuts. even if I put the 6ft (72") finish mower on and not use the bush hog so we compare apples to apples with finish style blades and cut. My 20HP pto tractor wins hands down
