allis - chalmers 180 diesel
Have an Allis - Chalmers 180 ( diesel ) , starts right up & will only run @ an idle for a min or two then stalls . Can start & rev up but it will idle down & stall . It has new clean fuel . fuel filter & Injectors have been bled . Have put a new plunger in the Hand Primer Pump .

Welcome to TBN - I had nearly identical symptoms on my AC 160 a couple weeks ago - on mine, there's a second sediment bowl just ahead of the fuel pump - on closer look, I found a greenish disk hiding up inside the housing where the clear bowl mounts. Turned out that greenish stuff was algae - the disk itself is kind of a "micro-fiber", and was about 98% plugged solid with algae. Used almost a full can of carb cleaner from both sides before that disk looked right; put everything back together, bled it and away we go...

Dunno if that's the filter you referred to, but if not you may wanna check it out on yours... Steve

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

BukitCase has the right of it and I had a similar symptom case just a couple of months ago. Biological growth in the fuel tank which progressed through the fuel system. There are many fuel additives containing 'biocide'.

If you can get your hands on an 'inspection camera' (borrow or purchase), have a look inside your tank to confirm before you start firing the parts cannon at the problem. If you've got a growth in the bottom of your tank, it'll look like cotton-candy mixed with phlegm.

If you narrow it down to the injection pump, flex ring.. I can take care of that for ya..
Loosen the side cover & let some fuel run while the engine is running, before it shuts off..
IF it stays running, your return line is clogged.. either from garbage in the system or a broken flex ring inside the pump..
You can remove the fitting on top of the pump also and just let the fuel run.. and start it.. it'll tell you the same thing..
BTW> I'm on the upper lake, right on your back door.
