M-44 for yotes, you guys familiar with this?

Sigarms - I'm sure you are correct, to a point. The Feds may be able to use these devices anywhere on Fed controlled lands or where they are invited to use the devices. They can not place then anywhere - willy/nilly. If they were to place them anywhere/everywhere they deem fit - it could be the beginning of a local jihad.

That's correct -- these are only used on private lands by request of the land owner (or ranch manager) or on Federal (BLM or USFS) land. But, in Western States, the Federal Government manages over 600 million acres, and most of
that is grazed at some point during the year, so the area where they "could" be used is vast.

That would be my understanding. On government land or when requested. As you stated though, that's a CRAP load of land.

I remember being out in Idaho and Montana in the early 90's. Seems the feds weren't the locals favorite government (spotted owl issue for one). I joke with my buddies living out there that the East coast is SO used to getting screwed over by the government that we just assume it's going to happen and don't blink a eye when it does.
