Kubota L4701
About to pull the trigger on a new L4701 w/FL. This will be my first tractor. Wondering how much leeway there is with haggling the price down. The kubota site lists the l4701 with front loader and manual trans for about 29k with free implement. Do you guys pay the listed price or can you get the dealer to give free delivery, discounts etc? I always buy used trucks so never bought anything new.

I managed 12% off list for my L47TLB. After they gave me a price, I managed to have cylinder guards and pads for outriggers installed, and a secret kill switch for no charge. They also gave me a really cool Kubota jacket, and a case of grease. Looking back I probably could have convinced them to throw in a set of filters for the 50 hr service, and a service manual, but I'm not complaining. And a cutter blade for the loader, I shoulda had them give me a bolt on cutter blade.

Geez, and here i was about to pay full list price. Ive seen dealers from far away states offering a trailer and two implements for the same price. I assume they prefer to throw in extras versus knock the price down? I dont mind either way, i guess i'll ask for a thousand bucks off and another implement or tell em i'm going to the 'other' dealer that offered it to me.

By all means negotiate the best price/extras that you can. Just remember that a tractor salesman is not the same as a car/truck salesman, a tractor is a longer term 'investment'. In other words, you're not going to be turning the new tractor over in 5 years (unless you bought the wrong tractor for your needs). If you go to walk out the door, they won't chase you. They do want you as a long term customer but mostly for the service and parts department.

A good dealership will talk to you about your needs/projects and then sell you a tractor that fits those needs as opposed to what's sitting out on the lot. "Goodies", like RichM752 got was likely after a good long talk with the salesman. I know that I got free delivery; a free on site 50hr service; a complementary ballast box, dealership ball cap and (vinyl) 'bomber jacket.

Of course, I'm a bloody nice bloke too.

I think you speak of what you don't know. Your probably living in the world as you know it as it applies to YOU but that doesn't make it so. :D:laughing:
Needs change. In 13 years my NEEDS and property ownership and circumstances have changed many, many times and thus my tractors have changed many times. I'm sure there are many other people like myself that have changed tractors before they just got totally worn out and had to be replaced with different ones.

List price around here is a starting point. You should be able to get 10%-15% off list plus other incentives. Some have negotiated for the first service with free transportation, etc... Good luck...

True and fair enough. :)

*Of course I live in a magical world of retirement and a land of mystical creatures. One of Devils, Mountain Dragons and Tigers (thylacines); of wallabies, potaroos, pademellons and blue-tongued lizards...

And a land where it doesn't get so cold that salt/brine isn't lavishly spread over the roads = rusted out heaps (that once were vehicles) within those 5 years.
