Whats the differences between 3R and 3E?

not actually - it is cast iron. you might be thinking about the connecting rods.

Al con rod in a diesel would be done in a day or less.

It is the Rear differential/Axel Housing that is aluminum. It is functional, but lighter, and potentially more susceptible to failure (3 point attachment points breaking for example).

I managed to break aluminum axle housings on a Deere (had a major backhoe problem)

Fortunately, I was able to change them along side a buddy who had the same problem - his were broken too,

The good thing for me was the replacement Deere parts were a lot less than his Kubota ones.

And, yes, I would have been the first one to say that those cast iron ones would gold up better.

But, as to reliability on a Yanmar engine. There is no need to defend them. They are legendary.

True that. I hope Yanmar does well with its stand alone USA product launch. They make good stuff (and have an innovative new transmission). They will need to expand their dealer network and price aggresively early on to show they mean business. That said, they know how to build CUTs, and have a strong pedigree.
