Deer Ticks

Up this way they've been knocking on doors trying to get someone out to play... in other words, they're very friendly here.

I heard the right way to use permethrin for deer ticks is soak cotton ball in it, stuff the them in empty toilet paper tubes, scatter the tubes/100 around your property, mice find them, make nest with the permethrin cotton balls and that kills the ticks because the mice carry the ticks, should be called mice ticks not deer ticks.

We need more chickens and Guinea fowl!

They eat ticks like crazy!

Kid and I went target shooting two weeks ago and she found one crawling on her leg. I sprayed her down with deep woods off. Didn't spray myself..... at bedtime I found one stuck in my side. Tiny little things. I thought it was a scab from a thorn scratch until I put my glasses on. Yikes! That's only the 2nd tick I've had stuck in my in 50+ years. Working in the yard last week I found two more on my clothes.

They've been much worse here in previous years. I've probably removed only 4 or 5 in the last week.

They're really aggravating when they attach to one's scrotum.

Agreed! Depending on one's age, you might have to use a mirror to find them. The older you get you may be able to just pull the boys up and have a good look!

I use more DEET than Pyretherin just because I don't have to think ahead and treat the clothes with Pyretherin. Though one treatment of Pyrethern lasts quite a few trips through the washing machine.

My usual work pants wore out so when I get a new pair I guess I should go treat with Pytherin. Easy to do just have to remember to do.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

To answer the OP, the ticks are as bad as ever. Not any worse though. I was out working yesterday and sprayed my lower pant legs and shoes with DEET and I did not see any ticks on me. The wife and kids are constantly pulling ticks off the dog. The wife had a tick on her yesterday, most likely got on her when she was going after ticks on the dog.

Later,
Dan

Rarely do we find ticks on ourselves, or the dogs. One of the advantages of living at a higher elevation.

Ticks are always a problem in this area. This year is probably no worse than usual. A monthly application of Pet Armor does a great job keeping Duke, the Gordon Setter, tick free. I use high Deet Repel on my shoes, pant legs and exposed skin to ward off the ticks and flying insects. Vic
