Kioti NX6010HST Cab
As the title says I just got a NX6010Cab HST tractor and a woods bb72x rotary cutter and both the shaft and the PTO drive shaft have 6 splines but they will not slide together the drive shaft (sleeve/female) end seem just a little to small in diameter to fit over the tractor PTO shaft. Are there differences in Spline Diameter I though all 6 spline were the same? If any other numbers are needed in order to tell the type I have you'll have to tell me what to look for. I am so tired; I tried rotating the tractor PTO shaft, pulling the collar back on the drive shaft to release the bearings after an hr I got sick of holding that pto drive shaft in the air.

Are both items new? Those PTO shafts and couplers can be tough until there get some wear on them. I know I would struggle mightily with the mower shaft on my MMM until I had attached it/ detached several times. Just a thought.

The first year or so with my most recent tractor was a pain hooking up the pto, and that was using a 15 year old mower. It still seems very sensitive to how square the yoke is to the tractor end shaft.

All 6 spline pto shafts are the same standard size. Lube it up good and put some muscle into it, also make sure the splines are exactly aligned. Also make sure the there are not any dings in the pto shaft on the tractor or your implement.

Sometimes it can be a pia to get the shafts on the spline. The older I get the harder it gets. I sometimes have to take a break and rest a little. Recently I had to get help from a younger/stronger friend. A little embarrassing but help was needed.

Yes both the Tractor and rotary cutter are new, I am going to try and find where my caliper is and double check the diameters on them. I am new to all this and I just don't want to go breaking things trying to break them in, lol. By the time I quit for the night there seem to be a few abrasion/micro dents(drive shaft not the PTO shaft) nothing big or major to that I feel would stop this from going on(not sure they are even from me didn't look at the end b4 I started). I'll take picture if I can't get it on tomorrow(if it doesn't rain).

check for any rough edges and paint on the inside of the female end of the shaft and feel of the tractor pto shaft to see if it smooth and no paint in the splines.

with your other thread and this thread.

have you checked and see if you need to cut the PTO shaft down? generally you buy a PTO shaft just a little bit longer. than what you need, then you need to cut the shaft down if need be for your tractor and attachment. not enough overlap between the 2 parts of PTO shaft, and you drop it, and shaft comes apart, or pto shaft begins vibrating/wobbling. if it is to long when you raise it up. and something has to give, your tractor, the pto shaft, or implement.

pull PTO shaft in half, try connecting to tractor (less weight in the air holding) and not fighting the sliding portion of the PTO shaft. if it works awesome, take it off tractor slide the PTO shaft back together. *ha ha sarcasm* try connecting it again back to tractor. my luck most likely as good as yours :) welcome to the party!

is there a plastic insert some how tossed into pto shaft end?

the end of of tractor pto shaft is partially coned / dome shape per say. so getting it started should work. but after that point. is the PTO shaft not sliding to let you get the rest of the way on? or pto shaft not wanting to spin enough freely so you can align everything up and get it on?

is there a "chain" holding the 2 pieces of PTO shaft together. to deal with shipping or like. some place on outside of PTO shield or under the PTO shields.

The PTO drive shaft came already mounted to a slip clutch on the rotary cutter. The drive shaft slid out ~16" or so not sure I'll measure in the morning . I'll try taking the two halves apart if I can't find my calipers. Yes the end of the tractor PTO shaft is tapered and the drive shaft doesn't seem to make it past that either which is what lead me to think they are not right together. I can turn the tractor PTO shaft CCW enough that if they wanted to go together they should be able too. The drive shaft cam with two chain one on each end. the one was in attached to the mower already, the other was hanging partly in a little baggy. I'll put some marker on the drive PTO to measure the distance travel while raising/lowering it. I only hope I don't have to cut anything. I can but its not something I am looking forward to.
