1/2 ton with no bounce left in the suspension. Just some flex in the tires.

He's not over capacity; plenty of room left in the bed. He just needs to lift the tailgate.

On way to FIL for long weekend we stopped at McD 1/2 way up Vermont. Guy working on minivan in parking lot. He gave up and pulled out a chain. Single wrap of pickup hitch ball to front of minivan. They stopped at exit and appeared to reconnect the chain. Pickup pulled out and stopped quickly at end of chain - minivan had brakes on. They headed off downhill and we went other way.

I got one better. Saw a Honda broke down at a gas station in Ohio. Guy in a truck was going to pull him home.

They opened the hood, dropped a strap between the radiator and the engine, ran the strap through the loop on the end of the srap and back to the hitch on the truck and shut the hood and off they went.

Bet that was good on the radiator, core support, and grill area.

Similar, long ago a friend with a '50 Olds 88 needed a tow to the shop after his engine was removed. Friend #2 with the same model Olds offered to tow him. The early Hydramatics were 4 speeds with a compound low first gear that launched the car a couple of carlengths before it hit peak rpm and shifted up. Friend #2 wanted to impress the guy in the engineless Olds. He made such a brutal start that when he hit the end of the tow chain it bent the towed car's front crossmember.

Those were great cars for their time. Quickest and fastest production car for a while, used as patrol cars by CHP, NASCAR winners. I drove one for several years after high school.

Decades ago I used to tow and be towed with a chain. We could not afford a tow bar much less a trailer. So we did what we had to do. Probably illegal now but we never had a problem.

I wish I had a nickle for every mile I've spent at one end or the other of a chain.
Back then, we didn't have laws that assumed we were ALL stupid.

Non power steering & brakes helped along with manual transmissions.
