Looking to Upgrade an L130 to either x500 or x700 Series - Need Advice

Farmbuilt, I think youwill like the X590- and don’t forget John Deere’s 30 day promise. If the L130 did those hills, the X590 will not even burp on them; you will see an immense improvement. You have handles on either side of seat if you need them, but honestly I have not had to use them and I’ve done some steep hills, the 590 is super stable, never felt like I was going to lose it or tip, even going down some steep hills. When you look at X590 make sure it has HDAP tires on it, if not have dealer put them on. The HDAPS are great compromise – they give way better traction than turf tires- but are still gentle on the grass. They grab the turf without ripping it up. Not sure if snow blowing is in your future but you always have option of adding 47 inch snow blower on the 590. With hydraulic lift it’s a breeze. And you’ll love the high back seat and especially love the power steering. That’s an option people don’t even think about till they drive a tractor with power steering. Good luck today and hope you find the tractor you are looking for!!

Thanks Smoothas, snowblower hydro lift will be nice too. Can't wait to test one of these out!

I doubt the hills will be an issue. My X500 is like a billy goat and climbs/ descends hills with ease. I was prepared to go with the HDAP tires but the stock ones work just fine. I have one hill that's real steep, I would guess a grade of over 150 and it climbs it with ease. I don't go down it because the tires will just rip up the grass. I looked at the X580/X590 but they do go for a premium over the X500 (around here it was about an extra $1500~$1800). While I liked having power steering it really wasn't something I was willing to pay that much extra for. If the wife was to mow the yard I think the hydraulic lift deck would have been a big benefit but for me, on my yard, I rarely lift the deck. I do like the idea of fuel injection for easier starting (with a 48" deck I have never bogged the engine down) but the day I went to see the X500 I bought the dealer didn't know I was coming so it had been sitting for all of winter (we still had snow on the ground). It started right up so I kind of felt EFI was more of a want than a need. If you can find one for a good price then don't pass it up. If you are still looking then I would go to a Deere dealer and try each one out to see if it's of value to you. Since I was looking for a low hour used one and there's a lot more of the X500s out there it kind of sealed the decision.

I think I'm going to make an offer on a X590 tomorrow. It's used with low hours and I checked it out and looks as if it was brand new. Will post my update if the seller accepts my offer. I really like this tractor. I test drove it and did a full 360 degree circle and all I can say is wow this thing feels like it's 4 wheel steer even though it's not and it flies!

Why is the original owner selling it?

Apparently he's relocating for a job and doesn't need it anymore.

Is it a bad move to buy these tractors used? It's still got half the warranty left on it. I looked it over and tested it pretty good.

Not a bad move at all, especially if you can get a recent model in good shape with low hours and warranty left. You can save thousands of $

I got my x500 from a dealer who sold it new to a customer along with a Gator. They moved across country and agreed to sell it on consignment. The dealer was asking $4500 for it, I offered $4k. When I came to look at it I told them I had two others I was looking at in about the same shape, hours, and price (give or take). I told them if price was equal I would pick the one I liked the best and buy it. They texted the owner and told them what I offered. As we were leaving the wife wanted to take a picture of me sitting on it with snow falling (for facebook). Before we got back to our SUV the salesman came out and said they would take $4k so I bought it. Another dealer that I called said they had a customer who bought a new one each year. Late winter every year he would trade it in. Who knows if it's the truth but I'm not sure if I would buy new. Compact tractors hold their value while premium mowers like these take a much bigger hit. I saved 1/3 off the price of a new tractor, sounds like you could be saving thousands, why not save some money.
