Noise Reduction - Cab vs No Cab

Any guess on how much quieter?

We have cab as well s open station and the cabs are much quieter. Right now our cabbed tractors are Kubotas, but we had a Case as well all are much quieter. And as to limbs, I added cab protection on one.

I run a 5' rotary cutter on my B7800 -open station of course- and a 6' off my NX5510HC. No contest. I could sample with my decibel meter but the difference is so drastic that I really didn't see the need to. Mowing heavy brush, and keep in mind that the 6' cutter coupled to my NX can eat the snot out of some big stuff, I don't wince at the noise that is happening. I couldn't even imagine what it would be like without the cab to buffer that racket! I don't want to sample noises outside the tractor in any near proximity as that would be unsafe (not going to ask my wife to do it- yes, I could probably set the meter down on something, but knowing how things like this generally end up I'd end up somehow mowing the darn thing!). Does the cab amply engine noise more, perhaps, but compared to the other noises of operation I'd say that it's nothing.

I'm older. My hearing is still really good (test prove that) despite the fact that not until recently (after realizing how load the B7800 is while running the cutter- having the NX to compare to) had I ever bothered to wear ear protection: I decided to after a friend, much younger, always wore hearing protection because his hearing was so screwed up- industrial-mechanical tech). I really hate wearing ear plugs or ear muffs: one's head gets stuffed up, ears start itching etc..

Yes, there are other things that can be considered pluses for having a cab. I'd found myself retracting my arm when pushing past some blackberry canes. Ha! I was so used to doing that on the B7800 *you learn pretty quickly how to dodge those things- it becomes a self-defense instinct!) that when I got the cabbed tractor I was doing it while inside and protected! (now I just laugh) Working in the rain. Working when it's cold or hot (heat/AC). AND, my favorite- protection from BUGS! (somewhere here there's a cost savings in mosquito repellent!)

My L4060 hstc is a bit quieter than my old open station L3200 open station. Enough I only feel the need for hearing protection, like I did on the L3200. But I still wish it was quieter. Both were HST & have the HST whine.

Cabs tend to have a howling or droning sound to them inside. Some less than others, test a few, let your ears decide.
Only thing i like a cab for is just wintertime snow plowing to get out of the cold. Other than that, they`re a pain in the azz.

And I like the "brace" of an icy winter's blast. SO, No cab for me.

Plus, the trees would just rip a cab off in less than a day any way. ;-)

I've been reading about the HST whine. Do the Fully Synchronized Transmission (FST) or Glide Shift Transmission (GST) have any whine or other noise issues?
