Well.... I initially thought during the summer I could leave my GC 1710 configured with mid mount mower only. It turns out that I use my backoe, loader, and boxblade WAY more than i anticipated. I constantly have a neighbor or friend asking for a tractor favor so i end up taking the deck off often. I have put 200hrs on in one year just by accident!

Ive decided to sell my MF 2325 deck and get a used tractor with 44" or bigger deck. Ideally I would like a 54". Any suggestions? IMG_20170612_205937899.jpg

Get a 60" zero turn mower.

That is definately an option... It really only needs to mow and thats it. I dont need to run a snowblower on it or pull a cart etc.

I have the same need. Plain vanilla mowing. No attachments. I recently bought a Husqvarna GT48DXLS. 48 inch deck, 22 hp Kawasaki engine, K66 transaxle, and locking differential. Out the door slightly over $3k. Many others here have now bought the same model-- it's a beast. The side discharge is so strong it threw a rock across someones yard and broke a car window, so watch out for that. No separate powerflow unit needed if you want to run a bagger. btw I just bought the bagger for it but have not tried it out yet.

In 15 months I have put over 255 hours on my GC. The one thing I can guarantee you is the implement you need next is not going to be the one on the tractor. Its a little annoying but these little tractors are like a Swiss Army knife and the more you switch implements, the quicker and effortlessly you can do it.

That being said, if my yard wasn't such a rocky hillside, I would probably go the same route you are.

I always have the loader on for installing or removing the deck. Makes it easy to raise the front of the tractor to slide the deck under easier.

I have a GC as well, I use a husqvarna 48 inch deck but the next time around I will buy a zero turn, they do one thing very well..

By the time I was ready for a mower, I realised I didn't want to re&re implement too often on my GC so I bought a 54" z-turn. I should have considered that my wife wouldn't want to use it because "it's too complicated". She cuts our acre with a walk behind. Bought the z-turn with 35 hours and after three years it now has 41.

Why cant you cut the grass with your ZTR mower. Surely you can find a half hour of free time once a week to do that little chore.
Other option is to take a bit of time to go over the operation and use of the zero turn with your wife. They are not that complicated. The most complicated routine is starting them what with all the safeties, setting in the seat, parking brake on (in most cases although my neighbors Dixie Chopper requires the parking brake to be off), mower disengaged and control handles fully out . Once running, release the parking brake, pull the control levers in to operation position, engage the mower and off you go.

"Too complicated" is a great excuse.

My wife didn't think of that one. She just said, she doesn't like it.

No problem. If I'm ever unable to mow, and my wife want's to use the Husqvarna 48" tractor, or the push mower, to cut 4 acres, that's her choice.

One takes twice as long to do it as the zero turn, and the other takes 5 times as long.
