Same here. You hang around my crowd very long and chances are you will get at least one. They are never given to degrade or bully anyone.

x2. Here it's a sign of respect and acceptance.

Attempting a derogatory nick name will get everyone on you pretty fast.

I am glad to hear good stories about nicknames. It sure wasn't like that when I was a kid.

I guess it just depends on the situation and who's calling who what for what reason. We had nicknames for people we didn't like. And we had nicknames for each other in our circle of friends.

Schmoopsie-poo and googley bear.... I guess those are pet names, and not nicknames....

For my first 40 or so years I was known Mac coz my surname is one of those Scottish McKs. I moved to a new branch of the department at work so introduced myself as Cam which is a shortened version of my Christian name (Is it still PC to have Christian names ???) so my email name is a combination of teh two which reads the same front or backwards (still with me???)

Now you tell us that Jim Shooz is not your real name. What a disappointment. :(

We did have a girl in high school we called "Punchboard", but not to her face.

Seems to me that about 90% of you already have a nickname. It's now called a screen name and you all seem to like it!

LOL, in a former trade I came upon a few 'smuggling' (tax evasion) episodes that were harmful to our industry and as an elected representative of our industry was compelled to make reports.

The RCMP assigned me a code name to make reports. (only did so twice)

I recall one affluent business exec that used much of my time researching his needs and wanting my professional advise that got nailed for taxes.
He had the gall to even thank me and all in the same breath demanded warranty work on his proud US (taxes free) purchase.

That cost him dearly. (not a poor guy as he owned a Ford franchise, just cheap)

Back in the eighties you didn't want to give out your real email address and I had a choice of: Robin Banks, Orsin Kart, Luke Bothways, Ilene Dover, among others and I chose Jim Shooz. :cool2:
