I found a kubota L4740GST 4wd with loader and 255 hrs for $17K. Is this a good tractor and is this a good price?

Certainly started as a good tractor,check maintenance records to see if fluid changes have been done.
That is low hours for the year.General condition,leaks,paint ect.?What tires and loader(they offered two I believe).

This is a Kubota heavy-chassis 'Grand L' tractor, the Lexus of tractors. It it is in good shape $17,000 is a very good price.
This model has less complex Tier III emission controls, rather than more complex Tier IV emission controls.
Grand Ls do not linger in the resale market.

Just make sure the transmission fluid gets changed, every 300-400 hours and use Super UDT. GST is an automated 12 speed gear transmission with a forward reverse wet shuttle clutch, do not need to use the foot clutch for any shifting.
If treated well that is a very good tractor and can pull all day without any of the concerns one would have with a hydro overheating.
Check and see if the front drive shaft seal is leaking or has been replaced, only real problem I have heard on that series.
