I remember in the early 80's when you couldn't buy a Civic for MSRP they were going for about $3000 over MSRP. I had never heard of a car for more than MSRP.

I stopped by two dealers with Chevy Bolts recently. One dealer had $4,000 Additional Profit stickers on every car.

The other dealer wasn't so bad. He had the $750 Fast Charge option on every Bolt. That's good if you are going to use the car for highway trips and will charge along the way, likely not needed if its your second car for local use, will charge overnight at home, and 230 mile range is sufficient. The factory sticker on this dealer's showroom model had $450 for special bronze paint color. Ya sure. :grumpy: I had forgotten what a hassle it is to buy a new car.

It sure can be...

Some the buying services can make it easier and still get a price if you exactly what you want.

That reminds me, back in 2008 I was looking at new trucks. Stopped into one Ford dealer they had a lot of Shelby mustangs on the sales floor. All brand new with between 15,000-20,000 mark up on them. The only problem was they were 2005's' 2006's and 2007's. Wonder why they weren't selling.

The Mazda Miatas were the same way when they first came out. Crazy high over book prices from all the dealers. Got so bad Mazda corporate came down and said any dealer they caught doing that would get it's dealer's franchise pulled.

Sad to admit but I once hauled a 16' garage door from the home center strapped to the top of my '70s Honda Civic hatchback. I did tie off the front and back to the bumpers. It was quite a sight.

My garage door collapsed leaving my garage unsecure. Desperate times, desperate measures.

Those cars didn't weigh much at all...... if you'd crested a big hill and caught an updraft, you probably would have been fined by the FAA !

Needs Must..... :drink:

I remember where I was when I saw my first early 70s Honda. My first words were, "What is it?"

I said, don't look like a motorcycle.

I have had 5 Hondas, all have been good.

Yep. I remember in high school the dealer's kid drove one. Four of us picked it up off the edge of the street and moved it between two trees where he couldn't get it out.

That brings back a memory. Decades ago I got a contract to install 2x12 bumper strips in a large underground parking garage. Easy work, good money. All the tenants got a schedule, when to park elsewhere so we could do our work. Needless to say, a few xxxholes did not care. In those cases me and my partner bounced their cars sideways out of the way, in between a couple of pillars. We got complaints, basically my reply was FU. Still remember that with satisfaction.
