I agree, my driveshaft cover made noise whether in 2wd or 4wd since it turns regardless. Glad you found your problem none the less.

I agree and I thought about that though when in 2WD it is turning because the wheels are turning it with no load/pressure. In 4WD it is turning because it is driven by the transmission and it has a load (tires) on it. Possibly something is worn in the connection points of the drive shaft allowing it to wobble/flex under pressure/force and rub on the tube??

I don't know, looking for input on this, maybe there is something with the driveshaft that is worn and needs attention?
