2516 Blowing 50amp fuse

Having an electrical problem with my 2012 2516 hst. The tractor is blowing one of the two 50amp fuses every time the glow plug light goes out which leaves me with no dashboard power. I was told by the dealer that it could be the solenoid but after $225 and installing the new solenoid it is still blowing the 50 amp.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What does the 50amp fuse power - the glow plugs or heater grid (sorry, do not know if it is glow plug or heater grid)?

I would try to start the tractor before the glow plug light goes out... maybe they shut off after the tractor starts - again, unsure - but if it does work that and does not blow I would suspect glow plugs/heater grid.

From what I can find online it is for the solenoid switch circuit. I have bypassed the glow plug and started the tractor without waiting for the light to turn off. It ran fine for a few hours. Once I shut it off it would blow within seconds of turning the key back on to start.

What is the normal amperage draw for a glow plug?.....Now its whole design is based on a restive short....What if one or more glow plugs are acting more like a short?...Drawing too much current to blow the 50a. fuse? I will guess it would still work while running, but I would also assume that the fuse would still blow when it was running.

This is an odd problem, I will follow it closely..

A fifty amp fuse will most likely not be powering a "control" circuit. It must be for the heater grid / glow plugs. The solenoid is closing and completing the 50 amp circuit to the "load" (glow plugs / heater). If the 50 amp fuse is blowing it is most likely the glow plugs / heater grid. The solenoid failing to ground on the "Load" side is not likely, the glow plugs or heater grid failing to ground is probable. Disconnect the wire / wires, on the load side of the solenoid and run through the start procedure again, see what happens. Sorry if this got long winded or if you have already tried this.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have disconnected the solenoid and tried to start. Fuse still blew.....

Now disconnect the glow plugs......and try.. Do you have an amp probe?.....Anyone have a wiring diagram of this circuit?

Its highly unlikely its a short, but over current possable?

The solenoid is like a switch which is not likely to blow a fuse or overload the circuit. It's a short or something that is after the solenoid in the circuit. Maybe a bad glow plug or some chaffed wiring to the frame somewhere.

Found the problem. The glow plug controller went bad. With it unplugged the tractor does not blow the fuse and starts up fine. Now to start searching for a replacement. Thanks for the help!
