Watched a guy leave out of the lumber mill down the street with a bundle of boards that weren't tied down, it was an older style equipment trailer and the bundle was kinda wedged between the ramps but I imagine one good hard stop and there would be some boards against the back of the truck.
Sorry didn't have time to get a picture.

that doesn't even sound right. Why would anybody who could afford and drive an Electra even want to have an Isetta given to them?

Mom worked for a Doctor in private practice in Sunnyvale California.

He drove a Mercedes 300 Gullwing picked up at the factory in Germany and his wife drove a Ford Retractable Hardtop and the Nanny a big Chrysler Wagon.

For the office staff to run errands he bought a BMW Isetta and Mom drove if the most even let her and another nurse take it for a weekend trip to Lake Tahoe...

At the time she was just happy to have the use of a "CAR" and really appreciated how economical it was on gas.

She hated driving the Chrysler Wagon... couldn't afford the premium gas at 28 cents a gallon to fill it up!

Well this interstate running load was strapped down, sort of. The protective tarp was a bit worn with the wind and flapping. Truck riding a bit low in the back. The load and tie down system not near as bad as some we see i guess. Yep also trying to move on to towing stuff :)

The 5 mile an hour bumper legislation would have done that car in anyway :D

Yeah, they didn't have any. Almost any front end collision would trap you inside.

I said they were a neat novelty. Safe they were not. Maybe the one vehicle more dangerous than a motorcycle - maybe.

Novelty. I only personally knew one person who owned one and it was strictly a novelty. But it was not the only one I ever saw around town.

I also [seem] to remember people getting a Yugo free with their purchase of some other higher end vehicle- which begs the same question...

I wonder if the dealers thought they were good idea until they saw them, and then decided to make them some other [sucker's] problem...

There was a time when you could buy one Yugo and get either two or three. I think it was buy one and get three.
