Got this craftsman Lt1000 917.272061 that gave problems starting. Think the clutch/brake interlock switch was bad. In any event, it is now. Two questions:

1 - It seems "impossible" to get the new switch in there without damage. OK, now you know why the switch is bad for sure. Seems the shaft for the brake/clutch is in the way. Can't see a way to slide it out. Any ideas?

2 - the schematics seem to show one set of contacts is "normally open" and the other set is "normally closed". That is for both the clutch/brake and the "implement" (blade deck) lever switch. Is that right? If so I have two bad switches as the other one is NO on both sets and NC on both when the plunger is pushed.

Electrics can be fun, but now when schematics lie to you.

Patience grasshopper! They are a bit of a bugger to get in , but they go. I've not had to unhook and drop one side of the clutch shaft, but I suppose that it is possible. Be sure to have the deck off so you can maneuver. Yes, side to side one set is normally open and one is normally closed.

regarding the contacts, I guess I have two bad ones then.

When the first one comes in, I'll give it another go, with a cooler head. I just could not get the old one out without destroying it, so was pretty warm by that time. Seems a cake walk if I could get that shaft out of the way.

How did you manage it? Just wiggle and waggle? Hammer and Tong?
